I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I’m having upgrading my HP laptop (model 15-bs0xx) from an old HDD to an SSD. Every time I try to install a new SSD, the laptop won’t power on at all. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. I initially bought a 250GB Kingston SSD and tried installing it alone (without the HDD) – no luck. The laptop wouldn’t power on.

  2. Then, I tried installing the SSD alongside the old HDD, but still, the laptop was dead.

  3. Thinking the SSD might be the issue, I bought a 500GB ADATA SSD, but unfortunately, I got the same result – no power at all.

  4. When I reinstall just the old HDD, the laptop powers on as usual with no issues.

SSD Model I bought: Kingston NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 and ADATA PCIe Gen4 M.2

I also upgraded the RAM from 8GB to 16GB, but that doesn’t seem to be causing the problem, as the laptop still works fine with the old HDD.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone have advice on what might be going wrong? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

What is your 15-bs0xx ? Many 15-bs0xx machines do NOT support dual storage option. If any, they do NOT support NVMe SSD's.

Hi Banhien

Thanks for your response.
What do you my by What is my 15-bs0xx ? Is there any SSD model/type you recommend as compatible?

Hi, @aantunez

It doesn't matter what specific model 15-bs notebook you have.

If it has a M.2 slot, the slot only supports SATA SSDs as indicated in chapter 1 of the service manual.

I recommend a WD Blue SA510 M.2 SATA SSD in a storage capacity that meets your needs and budget:

This is the 250 GB model:

Hi Paul_Tikkanen

Thanks for your response. I can see that WD SSD has two slots, and mine has only one. See the picture attached for reference.

You're very welcome.

The drive will fit in the slot with no problem.

The one notch fits where the M.2 SSD slot key is, and the other notch just doesn't make contact with any of the pins on the other side of the M.2 slot.

The fact that the M.2 SSD slot doesn't have a key on the other side does not prevent the 2-notch SATA SSD from fitting.
