How large of an ssd can my envy17 accept

I'm having a devil of a time upgrading to win11 on my Envy17. The SSD (C drive is only about 120G) is full so the upgrade won't run. For reasons unknown, I cannot upgrade to the large HHD D drive either. If anyone has worked around this problem, feel free to elucidate. Microsoft hasn't come up with one.

So, I may have to replace the small SSD, and I need to know how large I can go on this computer.

For all intents and purposes, there are no capacity limits for either an M.2 NVMe SSD or a SATA SSD drive.

OK, just so I am clear: do you mean you want to add or swap out an existing drive and which one, by the way: an M.2 NVMe SSD or a SATA SSD?

The current C drive lacks enough free space in order to upgrade to win11. It's a pretty small drive at 128gb and there seems to be no way to free up anymore space. So the plan is to replace it by cloning to a larger SSD, upgrading that larger drive, and then swapping them out, leaving me with a larger C drive running win11.

The only info I can garner about the current drive is that it is a liteon cv8-8e128-hp and the interface is SATA. So, I'm asking if there are any more caveats regarding a replacement other than the SATA interface. The computer is an HP Envy17 bought in oct 2019.

Yes, there are indeed caveats regarding upgrading a SATA III TLC NAND M.2 NGFF (2280) SSD.

Your 128GB M.2 SATA drive has either p/n: L15189-001 or L52454-001.

I would go with a 1TB M.2 SATA III drive, such as this purchase option via a trusted US eBay Seller: 1TB SSD 3D NAND TLC SATA III 6Gb s M.2 2280 NGFF 512TBW Read Speed Up to 550MB s | eBay.
