After my first ZBook Studio 16 G10 was replaced because of a bad pixel issue, I noticed that the replacement shows an annoying fan noise. Most annoying is that on the lowest speed, which is used most of the time in my case, the fan speed goes slightly up and down with a frequency of about 1Hz. Depending on the speed the right fan also emits a high frequency sound. I did not notice this type of issue on the first device.
When talking to the service hotline, I was told to start the fan test in the hardware diagnostics. If that test shows "OK" there is no issue with the fan. However, this test does not test the fan at speeds below 60% and also I doubt this test detects varying fan speeds or noises.
Does anyone have similar experiences with their HP ZBook Studio G10? Any idea how to make the service take my issue serious? Any idea how to fix this issue?

I found a similar issue in the forum:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-ZBook-Studio-G/m-p/5793010#M142377
The oscillating fans were fixed in a BIOS upgrade there. Does anyone know if there will be a similar fix for the HP ZBook Studio G10?

Hi,
unfortunately I was not able to fix it. I contacted the HP Support, but they were not very helpful. They did not really understand the problem, because my fans are not very loud, but only emit annoying noise. In the end they wanted me to send it in to repair it. I refused to, because I am quite sure that this is not a hardware problem that can be fixed by replacing the system board or the fans. Looking through the thread with the similar issue on HP ZBook Studio G3 (linked above) the HP support did the same in that case, but without success. When talking to a different support employee, he had the same opinion and we agreed that it's best to wait for the second level support to look into this problem. Unfortunately he was not able to forward me to someone in charge...

I have the same issue and it's infuriating. When I need to focus on my work, this fan noise is affecting my productivity. I need to set my computer to do some unnecessary work in order to spin up the fans out of the oscillation zone. This is an unacceptable flaw in a product of this price range.
I just checked firmware updates, but no luck.

I have the same issue, the oscilating fan at idle mode is driving me nuts.
I have bought the studio g10 16 in August, but mostly because this noise, I am still postponing the switchover, still working on my old Zbook Studio G3 and turning the new G10 just about once a month, doing all the SW updates and hoping that the fan issue will be fixed.. so far (Jan 2024) it is not yet...
I have stumped upon this page and at least I am lucky, that it is not just my individual HW issue, but common problem that hopefully can be one day addressed and solved...

I have exactly the same issue - fans oscillating and whistling, with exactly the same model ZBook Studio 16 G10.
This is my third HP laptop in the last 17 years (that I bought new), my wife has gone through two in the last 12 years, and this here is the first one where there are "disappointments out of the box"...
I have two-three other disappointments with this one but they belong to another thread.
I see this issue has been sitting here since more than two months - does anyone here know how to make HP take this issue seriously?
