How do you take apart an HP Monitor on a laptop..?
I need to do maintenance on the combined webcam/mic.
I have an HP Pavilion 15.
HP Pavilion-15 ab270sa to be precise
No obvious screws anywhere to take apart.

Alright..
I figured it out
The headphones I have plugged in, also double as a mic.
They are one of these headsets you can get for phones, where it's headphones and a mic
So that's what it was
Haha
OK. Problem solved.

Hi @kingneil,
Thank you for your inquiry. I understand that you would like to know how to disassemble the display of your notebook. Here is a link to the HP Pavilion Notebook (Intel) Star WarsTM Special Edition Notebook Maintenance and Service Guide Please review chapter 6, page 72, "Display enclosure" for removal instructions.

OK, here is the problem.
I opened up the monitor, unplugged the webcam module.
But now there is a RED LIGHT always on the keyboard on the "mute" button.
And now sound doesn't work at all.
All I wanted to do was remove the webcam, but now I've lost sound to the speakers/headphones as well.
How do I fix this?

Hi @kingneil,
Thank you letting me know how it went. I grasp you wanted to remove the webcam. Did you remove the webcam or disconnect the cable for it? Is it possible that you may have accidentally dislodged the speaker connection while removing the webcam? If you connect external speakers do they work? If you check Device Manager is there an error on the audio?

Hi @kingneil.
Thank you for that information. Looking at the manual, the speakers wires are close to the webcam/microphone connection. Is it possible that you may have accidentally dislodged the speaker connection while removing the webcam? If you connect external speakers do they work? If you check Device Manager is there an error on the audio? If the issue remains, please contact HP Support for further assistance. Contact HP Support Fill out the online form and follow the prompts. You could also try a local computer repair shop for assistance.

OK. I managed to get the sound working again.
My next question is... where are all the microphones located...?
I'm trying to replace all internal mics and only use a USB mic.
I thought the only mic was integrated with the webcam.. but apparently not.
Where are all the other mics located on this machine..?
It's the HP Pavilion-15 ab270sa

Look at page 10 of the Manual. There are 2. You really do not need to do this hack job on the computer you can enable and disable the internal microphones in sound app in the control panel and set the system to only use the external usb microphone.

This just shows mics at the webcam part. I already unplugged the webcam.
Where is the other mic? In the base of the computer near the keyboard?
