Opened up and can't see ram anywhere. Any clues please ?

Just finished my upgrade of ram. Major job but worthwhile in end. Not soldered in but as inaccessible as possible. Got there in the end and machine wizzing along. I couldn't have done it without your advice, thank you very much again. If you're ever in the Highlands the drinks are on me.

I would love to visit the Highlands. If you could not have done it without my help it is customary to assign the Solution to the post that actually has the Solution. But either way, pleased it is working for you.

Not sure if I'm doing this the right way. Many thanks to Huffer for his advice and pointing me in the right direction. The manual and drawings did help but there were slight differences. I had to remove the small plate that holds usb slots on RHS and the copper strip on top LHS. Great care has to be taken when removing system board and evenmore when replacing, it is very easy for one of the small cables or ribbons to slip under board and be missed, which nearly happened to me. Not for the faint hearted. The ram is hidden in a little metal shield taped under the system board and care is needed at all times. Most important, disconnect battery first and reconnect last while wearing an anti-static cord.
