You're very welcome.
Your notebook processor upgrade failed because on any notebook that I know of with the Mobile Intel Series 5 chipsets and 1st generation core processors, separate motherboards are required for notebooks with the dual core processors, and notebooks with the quad core processors.
I bet if you find the online service manual for your ASUS notebook and look at the parts list, you will see that there are separate motherboards listed specifying dual core or quad core processors.
For example, take a look at chapter 3, pp 22-23 of the service manual for this HP notebook with the same chipset...
You will see motherboards broken down by dual or quad core processors.

All right, understood. My laptop cannot be switched on at all after I installed that i7 720QM.
I will proceed purchase the Q9650 (or any other affordable CPU) and update my progress in here.
Thank you again.

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
I think with your notebook, the best dual core processor you could install would be this one...

Or check the service manual for your ASUS, and see what they list for supported dual core processors.
With the dc5800 desktop, if you do get a microcode error, let me know, and I will walk you through how to update the microcode.
It is easy if you know what to do. Difficult if you don't. You need special files and tools besides the microcode update file.

Actually, I have bought the i7-640M after the i7 720QM didn't work 🙂 . i7 640M is slightly newer than the i7 620M. The detail of the CPU is available in the link below:
http://ark.intel.com/products/49666/Intel-Core-i7-640M-Processor-4M-Cache-2_80-GHz
I noticed that the the i7 620M has embedded system (according to your link) while the i7 640M doesn't have embedded system (according to my link). Not sure whether it is really true or just a typo.
Btw, someone from another forum would like to sell the Q9650 to me at the price that is slightly cheaper than ebay. We are still at negotiation process.

Hopefully, you will get it at a price you are happy with.
I guess I missed the 640M on the list. I would have gone for the fastest one possible too.
Anyway, now you know why the 1st gen quad core's won't work when trying to upgrade from a dual core.

Yes. Since it is already confirmed that quad core CPUs won't work on my laptop, I can make arrangement to resell the CPU on ebay, amazon etc.
Btw, I would like to ask another question. This time I would like to ask about RAM. I tried to search for DDR2 1066MHz RAM on ebay. So far I the only well known brand that I managed to find is as follow:
1) Samsung 8GB 4X 2GB DDR3 PC3-8500U 2RX8 1066MHz NON-ECC DIMM Memory Desktop RAM
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-8GB-4X-2GB-DDR3-PC3-8500U-2RX8-1066MHz-NON-ECC-DIMM-Memory-Desktop-R...
All this time I only have experience using Kingston. Is the Samsung kit above is enough for my old PC (HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor)? If the Samsung kit above is not okay, then the only remaining option for me is to purchase GAMING RAM kit (ADATA, G.SKILL, HyperX, OCZ, Patriot, GEIL etc.). However, I'm not sure if this GAMING RAM is too much for an old PC 😛
Thank you.

Hi:
The chipset in the dc5800 will only run the memory at a max of 800 MHz, so there would be no point in installing expensive DDR2-1066 memory.
This is what I used in my dc7800 CMT, which is basically the same model as the dc5800, with a few other options (like a slightly better series 3 chipset and the ability to select RAID instead of just IDE).
I got 2 packs of these to max it out to 8 GB.

> Should I just stick to ordinary RAM or will there be any difference if I go for the Gaming RAM?
Gaming RAM sometimes has its own "radiator" (heat-conducting casing) over the RAM, to promote better heat dissipation.
Adding additional case-fans will also promote better heat dissipation, if that's an issue for you.
> Get the cheapest quality memory you can.
Did you really mean "cheapest quality" -- namely RAM with the least amount of quality ?!
