You are talking about a nearly 20 years old camera. How BIB (capacity) is your SD cards ? Please use 2GB or 4GB cards and try again. I bought a Nikon D50 around that time and it supported ONLY 2GB cards max. I know only a simple firmware could fix that but Nikon did not release new firmware.
