My experience was just about identical to nadeemshafi's. My keyboard/trackpad was not functioning. I also spent much time checking dev mngr., etc.
I followed the directions for hard reset and it fixed the problem. I'm smugging right there with you, nadeemshafi.

You are AWESOME! my keyboard died on me and after 2 hrs of remote technical support, the tech diagnosed, eulogized and buried my laptop...I went to WallyWorld and purchased a usb keyboard...found your solution, tried it and VOILA!!!! ... many thanks to you!

I am having a similar problem but not exactly the same. Presario CQ60
Control Key appears stuck. For example, if I open Notepad and key an "s" the program opens a save window. If I pull up the display keypad, it shows ctrl pressed. I press the left one, nothing happens. I press the right one, it turns off. Then everything seems to work fine.
Suggestions?
(the hard reset did not work)
I have reinstalled windows 7 from the restore.

Hi,
I have a compaq mini 311c 1010sa ..winxp professional sp3, the touchpad will not work when i power up but the keyborad will work for some few minutes before it stops working. when i connect an external mouse to the laptop it will work but the keyboard and touchpad will not work untill i restart the system. The touchpad and keyboard will continue to work as long as i keep restarting. But whenever i shut down the system it wont work again unless i have to attach an external mouse and restart again.
what i have done so far was; i have tried to uninstall all recent updates on the notebook, i also tried in safe mode its still thesame story. i tried the hardware reset (unplug the power and battery then hold down the power button for 1min..) still didnt work.....
please kindly help me out

I take it you have tried the hard reset, last known good configuration, and safe mode options without success.
Does the trackpad work without issue?
If you use a USB keyboard, provided one is available for testing, does it let you enter the password?
If so, then it may just need a reinitialization of the keyboard driver.
If a USB keyboard is not available and the trackpad works, then you should be able to activate the on-screen keyboard to at least get signed in. This can be done by clicking on the ease of access icon in the lower-right or left corner and selecting on-screen keyboard.
Once signed in, open the Start menu.
Right-click Computer and select manage.
Select device manager on the left.
Expand the Keyboards section.
Right-click and select uninstall on each item listed under keyboard. Follow the prompts each time to uninstall it.
Reboot the system. Windows should automatically install the driver at next startup (it may take a moment after the login screen appears).
Let me know what happens.
