My laptop Case started cracking near the hinges and now the screen is separating from the case. I am so frustrated, reading through the complaints on this site it’s a common design flaw. I called HP but since it is 2 years old they will not repair. Best Buy said they would have to send it out and could cost $400 for replacement screen. Now I have duct tape on my laptop holding it together. $850 for a laptop that lasts only 2 years is not acceptable. If this is the best HP can do I will NEVER buy another product from them. Can anyone provide some assistance?

I searched this same topic today and joined this site just so I could post. I started to notice a clicking sound a few months ago when I would open my laptop. I realized that the outside panel/trim was starting to separate from the screen at the lower right hand corner. Each time I would open my laptop, I would just squeeze the panel shut again; no problem. Today, however, when I opened my laptop, the panel separated almost all the way to the middle of the screen and the plastic piece protecting the screen's hinge broke off. I can't close my laptop shut b/c the panel/trim separates even further and I can't close it b/c it's too tight. I have never dropped my laptop - it just sits on the floor next to the couch - and it's never been in any kind of place, situation, or around people where it can be damaged.
I'm at a loss as to what to do and it sounds like others are having this same problem. Definitely must be a design flaw.

Hi K_dub1176,
Thank you for responding, it sounds like we are having the same issue. My screen has not separated completely from the case yet, just the corner, but I am sure it will happen soon, then I assume my laptop will be useless. I'm sorry that happened to you. My case separated on the left side, and since I am left handed, I can see myself closing the laptop from the left side which I am sure caused the extra stress. Mine is a 2 in 1 and I think the screen portion is just too heavy for the design of the hinges, very poor. I looked back at all the old posts and there have been many regarding the hinges, it's definitely a problem that HP refuses to acknowledge. Maybe starting this new thread will shine a new light on what seems to be a continuing problem with their design.

Thanks for your response, Barbara77. I started a new thread as well with the topic "plastic trim around laptop screen separating at right hinge/corner" and I discovered how to add photos, so I did that today hoping HP will get a better idea of what is going on.
I posted my topic on 5/18 with no response yet from HP. Other posts have responses, so it makes me wonder about their customer service. When a customer writes a post, at least acknowledge it with a response. The virtual assistant was absolutely no help and I couldn't figure out a way to chat or email HP directly. So I guess we just wait and wait and wait, esp those who are now working from home (like I am) and need the laptop for work.
