@JamesB777,

Your model's M.2 slot only supports M.2 SATA SSDs. If a Crucial drive is an M.2 NVMe SSD, it doesn't work unfortunately.

Crucial PCLe Gen 4 NVMe 2280 M.2 SSD . Can I use this as an external hard drive for my laptop. I'm not exactly sure why but I bought both ram and the hard drive based on the critical scan. Looks like neither are going to work. Critical said I had two memory slots there's only one. I'm 64 I'm learning as I go the hard way especially when you ain't got money to spend. Thank you so much for your help though and your answers. Have a good day

You need to use a USB to M.2 NVMe adapter like this one to connect the M.2 NVMe SSD externally.

I see Crucial falsely report that your model with an AMD 3020e processor supports M.2 NVMe SSDs.

See a couple of the threads below where Folks found that their 14(s)-fq0xxx models didn't support M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Perhaps, you can return the Crucial M.2 drive for a full refund and buy a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD like this.

An M.2 SATA drive installed in the M.2 slot will run a lot faster than an M,2 NVMe gen4 SSD connected to the notebook via a usb to M.2 SSD adapter.

This is just a thought. It's up to you to decide.
