HP ProBook 455R G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When it happened I was scrolling through the web with music in the background. I had 2 audio dropouts but thought none of it. After about 5 minutes the laptop abruptly shut down and started smelling like smoke. The smell seemed to originate from the optional drive bay inside the case. I have grabbed the screwdriver instantly to disconnect the battery in case something had shorted. Everything got undone, except the clasp in the middle, so I couldn't confirm that the drive I have put in it died. When I tried to turn it back on, nothing happened, except the WiFi LED lit up red. The laptop was never put under prolonged serious load. If you have any questions about me installing the drive myself, I took serious precautions when doing so. Using isolated prying tools to pop the bottom cover open, not touching anything on the main board, etc, etc. After about 20 minutes of it shutting off, it stopped giving any signs of life. What could have went wrong? Possibly the VRMs have gone bad or the PCH overheated? It might be also the drive since, once again, the smoke seemed to originate from the bottom right side of the keyboard. (if looking from the top, display towards yourself)
