Hello, I’m completely at a loss.
My laptop only starts briefly after I disconnect and reconnect the battery, or when I reset the CMOS. After that, it runs for a while until the power LED and the screen start blinking. Then the device kind of has a short “seizure” and shuts down.
The problem gets even worse when the power adapter is connected.
I have tested both the battery and the power adapter – both passed the test.

Hi @JonKö,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I can feel how stressful this must be. Your OMEN is a powerhouse, and when it starts acting like this, it’s like watching a race car stall on the track. The blinking lights and sudden shutdowns are clear signs of a power delivery or motherboard-level issue, especially since it worsens when the adapter is connected.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the power adapter and battery.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and adapter, then try powering on.
- Update BIOS and Drivers
- If the laptop boots, immediately update BIOS and chipset drivers: 👉 Official HP® Support
- If the laptop boots, immediately update BIOS and chipset drivers: 👉 Official HP® Support
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Press Esc repeatedly at startup → F2 → Run System Tests (especially battery and power tests).
- If tests pass but the issue persists, it points to a board-level fault.
- Check for CMOS or Embedded Controller Issues
- The frequent need to reset CMOS suggests a failing system board or EC firmware.
- Unfortunately, this is not something software can fix permanently.
- Service Recommendation
- If the blinking and shutdown continue after updates, the root cause is likely:
- Motherboard power circuit failure
- Or faulty hall sensor/power delivery IC
- HP strongly advises a system board replacement in such cases.
- If the blinking and shutdown continue after updates, the root cause is likely:
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @VikramTheGreat,
Thanks for your help!
Just an update — the laptop currently only runs when the battery is disconnected. When the battery is connected, it still blinks and shuts down as before.
I’ve already updated the BIOS and all drivers as suggested, and I also ran the ESC → F2 hardware diagnostics, which all passed successfully.
Unfortunately, the issue still persists. Do you think this confirms a motherboard or power delivery issue, as you mentioned?

Hi @JonKö,
Thank you for letting me know about the results. If all the tests for hardware passed, it doesn't look like a board issue.
Could you please run a Battery test on the pc using the F2 or HP Support Assistant and let me know the result?
Try and let me know
Regards
