I have not noticed my second drive ever being unavailable since the install. However, like the other person mentioned, I have my SSD in the main spot and the HDD in the caddy. I don't know if that helps you or not.

Saint Havoc,

Thanks for the follow up. The real issue here is plain and simple: HP Disabled the M.2 on the models shipped through Best Buy. They refuse to debate or even so much as to respond to the simple question as to whether they are ever going to give us that capability. This is the one true burning issue above all issues. Luckily I was able to return the HP to Best Buy and grabbed an Best Buy Blue Line ASUS RoG for $900 that did come with enabled M.2 SSD bays( two of them) (PCIsx4) and maxed ram is 64gb. So there you have it ...err or don't have it in the case of HPs

I contacted the company and they sent me a new connector with a much shorter cable and everything seems to be working great.

Hi,

I'm from France and I have Pavilion gaming 15 ak-106nf.

I bought an SSD, Samsung 950 EVO M.2 and my laptop don't detect it !!

Have we a solution please ?

Well, to save you up of reading 12 pages and 9 months of discussion of this post, HP disabled m.2 functionality from Bios for some models even if the ports are there.

If your 950 Samsung is not recognized when you plug it, there is nothing you can do about it. I had the issue with the same ssd

WHAT ???

I bought this computer 1 000 euros for my school ! And I can't put an SSD ?

So why engineers have put this port to disable it ?

Is this a joke ?!

You can use a SATA SSD but a m.2 just won't work

Why they did it?... well that's a good question....

If I use a SATA SSD, I can't use an HDD :manfrustrated:

I work in animation, video and modeling programs and I need an SSD + HDD...

THANK YOU HP !

It's a really stupid decision !!

Yes, it socks, but if you are not able to return it, you can actually connect hdd + ssd... but you will have to buy the connector for the 2nd drive

And how can I do this ? What type of connector ?
