HP Spectre x360 - 13t-aw000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

My Spectre display was black when I took it from the charger two days ago. The night before it was normal except for two red flashing lights (2 times) before I put it on the chat and went to bed. I took it to Best Buy and CPR who said it was a backlight issue. My manufacturer's warranty expired in January. To fix I have gotten estimates from $500- $800 . My Spectre was expensive. My life is on it. I just can't see it. Help, please!

Yvonne

If your warranty is expired, all we can do for you here is help you verify that the backlight has gone out, give you parts numbers and a Service Guide that shows you how to replace the screen.

Turn it on and let it boot, take a bright flashlight and hold it close to the screen, if you see your desktop where the beam hits, then indeed your backlight is out.

Thank you for your help. The backlight is indeed out. Were the two sets of numbers at the bottom of your reply, the ones I need for the part and instructions for install?

I am a novice.

You're the best for helping.

Thanks for the kind words, it goes a long way for us volunteers, really! The numbers in my sig at the bottom are my wife's all in one, and my laptop.

SO here's the Support page for your laptop- https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-spectre-13-aw0000-x360-convertible-pc-series/29100376/model/...  Save that for future reference. From there, click the Manuals tab, and then select the Maintenance and Service Guide on the next page. Which is this here- http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06649845.pdf

From there we go to page 44 where it lists all screens in different colors and resolutions that model shipped with. They only list the complete screen, as it's much easier to swap out screens than to find a backlight, disassemble one, peel off the backlight and install a new backlight without breaking it. Find the part that matches your laptop, then google the part number for a reseller. I buy a lot of parts online, and have to say EBay more often than not will have what I need at a good price.

Starting on page 44 is the removal and replacement procedure to replace the screen. It's not as hard as you might think, if one is fairly handy they can handle it.
