  • Did you run diagnostics on the computer for it to report that the hard drive has failed?
  • Did this happen after a windows or software update?

Please keep me posted and I will be more than happy to assist you with this.

I have a similar problem with my probook 6460b...it doesn't seem to be detecting the hd... I've tried reseating, checking the boot order in bios, and restoring defaults in bios..I don't seem to be able to access hp factory restore with f11 or any other way...the function keys in general aren't acting normal most of the time no matter which you press it goes into system diagnostics..(unless you take the battery out and discharge the static with the power button- then it will function normally for a few restarts) system diagnostics results are: start-up test passed ,run in test failed, hard disk test passed...I did not perform any updates purposely unless Windows 7 did it automatically...please help i can't for the life of me solve this!

I recently updated my bios via the HP firmware download for a HP Laptop. This was the following info;

Type: BIOS

Version: F.39 Rev.A

Operating systems: Windows 10 (64-bit)

Release date: Apr 21, 2017

File name: sp79620.exe (9.1 MB)

Description:

This package provides an update to the System BIOS. The update installs on supported notebook models using a supported Microsoft Windows Operating System. It is necessary to restart the system to complete the installation.

Fix and enhancements:

- Provides improved security of UEFI code.

NOTE: HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.

So - The update was installed, no partion backup was done, as it stated unable to. It proceeded to update, and then reboot the PC.

Upon the reboot the screen hanged on "No boot drive or O/S detected" - This was a newer interface, as i guess the old version of the BIOS was now gone... I scanned the harddrive dection, it found it, but would not load Windows.

Eventually i dug around and found that the BIOS Settings is available when pressing F10. Press this and then go to Settings, and Boot Options - TURN ON LEGACY BOOT OPTIONS!!!! The harddrive should be the 1st option.

Save settings, then reboot and your welcome!
