Elite x2 1012 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I bought elite x2 g1 as an ex display item few months ago, its great but it is loosing charge when shut down with travel keybord attached. Every day the laptop drains 30% of the battery (only when keybord attached - otherwise its OK). At first I thought it was an old battery, so I replaced it, but the problem remains. I updated the bios, to 1.48, I also updated all drivers , but I cant see any improvement. I suppose its a problem of the keybord, do I have to replace it? Any advice?

I have a similar issue though I havent changed the battery , but I notice that the laptop will loose about 5-10% charge every day. If left over a week its flat from fully charged. All updates are current.

@Lphil1

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you try another charger?
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello and thanks for your answer,

First of all I have to say that I have already contacted HP support in Athens Greece, and they kindly tried to solve the problem. We updated drivers and re-install bios. After these modifications the battery works a little better than before. However the issue still exist, but now the laptop doesnt drains 20% or 30% of the battery every day, its less, maybe 5% to 10%.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update? NO
  • Did you try another charger? NO
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)? NO
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)? NO
  • What is the product number of your device?

I have implemented all updates and the last thing  I did was to turn off the fast boot, as people claimed it was a cause of the battery drain. My battery currently drains around the 5-10% daily, last thing to try will be in bios to deactivate USB ports always on.

Is the issue resolved now?

Is this rate of discharge normal?

@Lphil1

Many factors can contribute to battery performance:

  • Battery cells suffer gradual, irreversible capacity loss with each discharge-charge cycle.

  • Temperature and discharge loads can impact battery performance and capacity.

  • Battery capacity and charge can decrease even when the computer is unplugged from a power source and not in use or turned off. The amount of decrease can vary by computer model. To reduce the charge consumption while the computer is turned off, disconnect any peripherals and disable Wake-On LAN settings in the BIOS.

  • During prolonged storage or non-use, the battery charge can decrease below its recommended low-voltage level. Discharging the battery below its recommended low-voltage level may physically damage the battery and result in the battery becoming unusable.

NOTE:  If the battery does not recover after charging for 30 - 60 minutes, the battery has most likely sustained physical damage and must be replaced.
  • Leaving the battery at a high level of charge in a high-temperature environment for extended periods can accelerate the loss of performance and capacity.

  • The computer generates excess heat during high workload or if it is not properly ventilated. This temporarily impairs the battery charge and discharge rate. The battery function returns to normal when it cools to an acceptable operating temperature.

  • To help maintain battery capacity, HP batteries are designed to discharge a small amount once fully charged. This is normal for most notebook batteries. The battery will begin to recharge once the charge has dropped below 95%.

  • Using software for graphics processing or high-definition video accelerates the loss of performance and capacity. For example, playing 3D games decreases capacity faster than using word processing applications.

  • Your notebook configuration and power settings can impact your battery performance. This includes settings such as:

    • Display brightness

    • Backlit keyboard

    • Display resolution

    • Windows Power Plan

    • Processor speed

    • Type of storage, such as a peripheral storage

Cheers!

I believed i have improved the drainage, it was either the wake on lan or the USB charging options in the BIOS that i changed. I hope this works for others as well.
