Hello community,

I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO SSD. My main drive being an M.2 SSD I wanted a regular SATA SSD to expand storage. I connected the SSD to my laptop through a USB 3.0 to SATA cable. It worked well, I had some games installed and so on. Later on I purchased a 3rd party, exact model number SATA connector to install the SSD inside the computer. One of these: https://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=626&zenid=ab0e...

I formatted the SSD to NTFS and named it New Volume and assigned (D:) to it.

I put it inside my laptop with the cable and go to "My PC" and nothing shows up. I go to "disk management" and nothing shows up. I go to "device manager" and nothing shows up. I ran cmd's "diskpart", "list disk" and nothing shows up.

I'm very new at drivers and related topics, but I got to install the newest updates for whatever I had. I don't know much about internal OS stuff, but I went into the BIOS (Insyde) and apparently I can't access SATA configurations at all... Only bootable stuff.

On the other side, under system info, storage, IDE, I got Standard SATA AHCI Controller named. Status OK, driver installed.

I'm in desperate need of help 😂

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP,

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: click here

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.)

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

Did you know that there's a list of parts tested and approved by HP that you can use during upgrades? Others may or may not work!

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!

Hi! And thank you for your assistance

My bad, I forgot to post that, as in another field I added that information, but I guess it's not available to everyone.

Here is the product number: W2N49UA#ABA   It's an OMEN by HP laptop.

I would like to assume that this part works for that upgrade, as I've seen other people be successful with the same part.

I followed the instructions on HP Support Assistant and that of the Virtual Assistant.

I also have a 16Gb USB drive with recovery media in case I need to try a couple solutions.

I await for your response,

Hello once again,

My drive is a SATA SSD. Listed in the compatible configurations is a value SSD that I cannot confirm is SATA. On the other hand, there's a SATA 2.5" HDD listed. My guess would be that having both SATA and SSD support I should be able to connect the drive.

I disabled the secure boot option as instructed in the link provided. Now secure boot is disabled and legacy support is enabled.

I opened disk management and it appears the drive isn't recognized. Device manager lists only one drive under "disk drives" category. Under "storage controllers" I got Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller, and Standard NVM Express Controller drivers installed. Maybe the issue is found here?

Thanks once again for your time and investment in solving the issue!

@JC_Fernandez If none of that helped, you may want to check with an alternate drive and see if that works, if nothing does, we may have an issue with the slot, and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
