I've seen this problem come up a couple of times in previous threads and I just noticed my laptop having this exact issue as well. The right hinge area where the screen and laptop base join is developing a large crack that runs from the charging port to an inch into where the speaker grill is. I'm well aware that my laptop is out of warranty but this is definitely a design flaw. Is it possible that HP will overlook my expired warranty and repair this for me or will I have to take it into a repair shop? And is there anything I can do in the meantime to make sure my screen doesn't fall off?
