Hi there I hope that you can help please. I have a Pavilion G6 that has suddenly stopped working,

Last time I used it there were no problems.

The power button won't switch on, when the power lead is connected there is no charging light.

The battery seems to be dead also as it won't switch on with battery power.

I have tried the various tests ie removing battery and trying to use with mains power, no success.

I have tried removing the power lead and trying to use battery power, no success.

Before | buy a new battery or power lead I need to know which is the problem. Is there any way of testing other than what I mentioned above. It's an elderly laptop but has great power and a CD drive so am reluctant to throw it out. Is it worth buying a new battery and a new power lead?  I'm concerned that there is a bigger issue as there is no light when the power lead is connected.

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thannks!

When you do not identify your desktop or laptop PC, you tie our hands behind our backs. Help us to help you.

When logged into Windows, hold down the Windows key and tap the R key once.
That will open the Windows run dialogue

Type in msinfo32 and press enter.

The ninth line is the SKU and the HP product number. Kindly post it in your next reply in your thread.

The System SKU/Product ID will enable us to determine the hardware configuration of your notebook.

If your laptop or PC will not turn on, look at the bottom of your laptop  or the rear of your desktop PC to find the identifying information that we need.

he Product ID, complete product name or SKU are what we need to find information on your HP product.

Thank you, I cant logon as the laptop is completely dead ie NO POWER.

The HP model number is;  HP Pavilion g6-1326 SA.

I presume by SN  you mean Serial Number? If so it is: [personal info removed]

I hope that this information helps.

Thank You

Using your description, with no power LED and no reaction when you press the power button, I lean towards a system board problem.

With the generation the g6-1326 SA comes from, I would not find it worthwhile to purchase either a battery or a replacement power adapter.

It is time to source a replacement laptop. You can remove the drive from the g6-1326 SA laptop to  connect to a USB adapter and then copy the data to another  storage device.

USB DVD/CD re-writers are still available available for purchase through online vendors.

I wish I had better news for you, but I do not.

Thank you Erico, I appreciate your frankness.  I suspected that with no light on the side coming on when connected to mains power, that there was a serious problem. A battery costs €30, is it not worth taking the chance? OR

perhaps it's a case of throwing good money after bad.

You mentioned about removing the drive. How do I do that please.

Best wishes

Leslie

"I suspected that with no light on the side coming on when connected to mains power, that there was a serious problem. "

No lit LED when the power adapter is plugged in is a diagnostic meaning no power or circuit problems.

Investing €30 is probably throwing your money away as a new battery is not likely to resolve the issue.

The video  should be  what you need to get access and remove the hard disk.
