My suggestion would to be look at the earlier posts. There is one there as a response to me about a guy to repairs this common issue on these laptops on ebay for a reasonable price unless you want to send it to HP.

If you can't find it let me know and I will look up the info for you.

I have a lot of experience fixing this particular computer.. Did you by any chance encounter this problem after a Norton Anti Virus update? I did ... Twice.. Norton is the enemy . Gangsters... They are the virus.. I fixed me " bad motherboard " issues twice with a watch battery , a lot of patience , and some research on resetting BIOS and ignoring the advice that says I need a new motherboard when in fact Norton and Windows updates are to blame. Norton IS the Virus.

Of course there can be graphics card and motherboard issues.. but frequently that is not the case... The boot / bios has been corrupted by the very people that charge you money to " protect" your computer.

In other words... They want you to buy a new computer. .. Windows 8 makes me want to barf but you can get a Samsung laptop at Best Buy .. In stock.. Intel.. 15 inch... HDMI .. Out for $379.OO ... Do NoT sign up for the Norton we will now take over your PC free trial.

My dv6700 hasn't had any problems for years. For the past few months I noticed my computer would shut down every time it went into sleep mode. I would remove the battery for a few minutes, and that appeared to fix the problem. About a week ago, my computer was having a problem booting up. The screen would display the HP logo then go blank into a black screen. The the blue lights would remain on, but no response. At this point the computer won't turn on and the 3 lights up front remain lit, no blinking.
I contacted HP, and it's pretty evident they don't stand behind their product. They offered a diagnosis costing $60, with a 14 day guarantee. It's apparent many others are experiencing the same technical problems. Hopefully HP will offer more help after seeing all our posts. I've invested a lot into HP, I own a few other of their products. I will not continue to invest if they won't stand behind their brand.

Hi! I had the same problem here on a dv6700.. But i did a disassembling and changed the therm paste. That worked! the notebook stopped to restart himself, but initially it was not booting, i was getting a black screen.. so i made a lot of changes on the boot system on the BIOS(activated even the network adapter boot.. dont ask why!! xD), and now, when i press F9 to select from where i want to boot and chose Hard Drive it works!! but when i let it starts himself(without pressing F9) stucks at black screen on any boot option(HD,DVD/CD,Flash drive).

Does anyone can help me to get my notebook starting without need to press F9? I even updated the BIOS, still same..

EDIT: NEVERMIND! it is perfect now.. after a another little search i turned on notebook with keys Windows and B to start in ZOMBIE MODE and restaured the BIOS! ITS PERFECT NOW.. for the ones that had the same issue with reset and black screen(wont boot) the solution is disassembling the note and changing the therm paste.

Hi bugsy59,

Thank you for joining the HP Forums! I see that you are having some issues with your Pavilion. The blinking lights is that the Num or Caps Lock LEDs? If so, how many times do they flash? It will help indicate what is causing the problem.

Thank you,

Must be a solder-related problem. I got my laptop to start several times by warping the case (I put an object in the front centre under the touch pad and then I press on the front corners bending it a bit and then I press the power button, It boots up and then I just leave it normally on the table and works fine. Just my 2 cents
