Im furious after reading all the problems.  Mine crashed a week ago and wont go back on.  I had a friend who had the same thing happen and he went to a couple of computer shops to get it fixed but they told him they had had a lot of problems with the HP 6700 that there wasnt a lot they could do.  I cant afford to get a new laptop and Im in the middle of doing a Masters which requires a computer as it is long distance learning.  I have an assignment due in 2 weeks and no computer and no-one willing to help! HP should be fixing these problems as CLEARLY its a fault with the computer.  I will definatley be passing the message on NOT to shop HP.

Have a dv6700 entertainment p c  that seem to have the same issues. Have tried checking memory, hard drive,etc  nothing works. Hit power button all lights come on and right back off. over and over. worked fine one minute then this. Is there any help out there.

  • DV6910 SAME ISSUE  WHAT I HEARD... ALLEGEDLY BAD CAPACITORS WERE USED IN CONSTRUCTION.  KNOWN BATCH OF BAD CAPACITORS.  HP SHOULD RECALL TO FIX THESE!  NEIGHBOR HAD SIMILAR ISSUE.  SOUNDS LIKE A DEFECT.  NEW MOTHERBOARD OVER $300!!!!  I WILL BE TALKING WITH SUPPORT FOR SURE!

Same PROBLEM.  OTHER NITE SIMPLY WENT BLACK.  KEEPS TRYING TO START OVER AND OVER TIL I PULL BATTERY.  ALL LITES COME ON FOR HALF SECOND AND NOTHING!  AS MENTIONED WILL REPEAT WITH NO LUCK.  EXACT SAME ISSUE.  HP WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS SERIES!!!!

You can add my friend's DV6700 to the list.  It will boot for a few seconds, sometimes long enough to get into the BIOS, and then it dies.  No lights, no fan, just powers down.  I unloaded every component I could think of.  Hard drive, optical drive, battery...  I even took out both memory sticks and it beeped at me for a few seconds about the memory missing and died as it did every other time.  Definitely an internal issue and not heat related.  Bad capacitors fit the bill but I don't have the resources to be sure.

My friend said HP wanted $100 to look at it since the warranty had expired.  And after reading the other posts here I am thinking of just saving the memory and harddrive to use elsewhere and getting a new one.  Doesn't sound like HP will help unless maybe the complaints make them start looking really bad to enough people.  If nothing else I hope this post helps that idea along.

I have a DV6700 service tag: dv6915nr.

 

It would not power up...it only with through the endless LED's and Fan on and off....   I read all of the forums and tried pratically every one of them.  The last one suggested pulling the CMOS Battery out for 30 Minutes.  I left it out for about and hour....*&^% it fixed the blinking LED's and FAN.....NOW it won't even do that...the only LED that lights up is the lightning bolt when I plug the power cord in.  

 

I have removed the battery and CMOS battery several times to see if it might clear something, but to no avail!!!!  Now it's completely dead with the exception of the power led... ALL others remain off...and no matter how short or how long I hold down the power button....NOTHING HAPPENS...

Sorry to have to tell you but you have suffered the HP curse: a motherboard failure.. I have had 2 HP DV9000 series crash on me, both from the same problem: there is a design flaw, they use a red solder to attach components to the motherboard which melts after running hot and usually after a year, they released an update for the BIOS which just made the fan spin constantly, just to get them past the warranty period..

I know.... we all though HP was a reputable company...

But look on the net, search 'HP motherboard problem' that alone will open the door to countless cases, THEY KNOW this is a problem, it isn't worth mending it if you have to pay, I've done that only to have the same problem come again, try bugging HP or your retailer, just don't waste your own money on it..

My Presario went to repair, the place I purchased it gave me a dv6700 for a loaner.  The service tag stated it was labeled as a dv6911us Entertainment PC and when I visited the computer site, total care it had a battery pack recall listed.  It allowed for battery validation through the automatic detection.

 

There are 4 different dates of battery pack recalls listed there, might want to check those out....

I'd like to add that my hp pavilion dv6700 laptop ( dv6911us series) has been running hot for several months, original battery holds a charge of about 15 mins, & a few days ago, started freezing and getting vertical red lines all over the display. I brought it to a computer repair store & they verfified that the motherboard was shot. They also told me that the hp pavilion dv series is crap generally, they have had a lot of similar repair issues with other customers. My laptop was purchased in Aug. of 2008 so I haveonly gotten 1 year & 8 months out of it. I called HP and they want to sell me a new motherboard & repair for $400 but my local repair tech said that a new motherboard will fall victim to the same problem, it is a design flaw in these systems. HP is only replacing motherboards & batteries of certain pavilions and mine is not included. If the HP customer service reviews these comments - you have lost a customer! And I am in an industry that is very tech based, so you lost a lifetime consumer!!!
