I have the exact same problem with my dv6700, all LEDs blink exactly for a second and then PC shuts off. I have checked RAM, removed all prepherals (HDD, DVD rom) etc. Tried removing RTC battery so BIOS is reset, removed keyboard  to ensure no stuck keys, tried static discharge process  - still no use. Anyone managed to successfully fix it?

Considering so many of us have the same issue, it's not likely to be usage related. Considering its a pre-BIOS issue, I bet its a faulty hardware component - HP should recall the model.

I too have exactly the SAME issue.

Mine is a dv9000 series, dv9218.

Died the other week. When trying to turn back on, lights on for a few seconds, fan spins 3 seconds later, turns off.

Then goes in a huge loop doing over and over.

If I can not find a fix, I will make sure my work never uses HP again considering they buy in the hundreds each year. What a joke!

Any one else have the same issues?

I have the 6700 cto white edition piece of junk...

So the power button is broken,

good thing I re formatted my harddrive and replaced the quickplay to power on the laptop as well 😄

so i have 3 "on" buttons, the normal on button is broken.

Laptop runs very hot

according to HMware, Playing starcraft 2 and movies, tvshows, downloading it hits up to 90's for

APCI

CORE 0

Core 1

Nvidia graphics card 8400m GS

then crashes, ...

I blame it on the NVIDIA graphics card problem of the 8400/8600 series...

nothing we can do though 😞

Another unsatisified customer of HP (Huge Pile of..).

My HP DV6000 series will not power up. Have spent over 1 hour on phone with service dept and a supervisor. Both very "understanding" of my problem, but had no solution except a $300+ motherboard from them, since there was no recall, just a Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Program.

Everyone needs to let HP service know this is not the way to treat a customer. I know I will pass this problem along to everyone I know and lobby against them ever buying an HP anything! And I will never purchase HP again.

Either they don't care or don't understand that this "customer service" problem will cost them much more that the $300 to fix our computers.

Mine is headed to the recycle bin as we speak.

*&%#$%#@ HP

SAME THING!!!

I've tried removing all components and batteries. Tried taking apart the computer and cleaning. Nothing, just lights blink on, then back off. Then I found this thread... this is terrible of HP!

I found a recall list, but this model (dv6700, dv6810us) is not covered!! Seems like it should be as it is having the exact same symptoms. And of course all this happened just after the waranty ended.

I have a dv9000 (dv9428nr) and it does the same. Somehow I managed it twice to start it again after the problem occured, but now it's dead. It originally occured after it went to sleep mode, but now it's also not booting after regular shut down. Hope there's a cheaper solution then buying a new motherboard.

same problem with a 6911us ... HP SUCKS, and dont worry people, the voice is really going around, A LOT OF PEOPLE know about this incompetent problem of hp. Im going to buy a dell inspiron with an intel processor, no more AMD or HP for me, and Im also going to sell my HP 50g calculator and Im going to buy the texas instruments.

Just wanted to join  the bandwagon. My dv6725 started powering down about 3 months ago but would turn back on and work for a few days. Finally just started the start up power down cycle. Totally dismantled and cleaned with no affect. Gets to initial start screen then shuts down. Motherboard is only apparent resolution. At Spareparts Warehouse they have the motherboard     REFURBISHED, for 188.57. It's late now, I'll call tomorrow maybe they found a mod to the board to ensure it will work. If not another HP paperweight.

Have same problem with mine (see post on 05-24-2010). However, when I press F10 after I turned it on, it stops shutting down but still does not boot, LEDs are on and screen stays black. Any idea if this points to a solution?

Thanks
