Hi there. Is Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 2400mhz RAM compatible my HP - 15s Ryzen 3250u.  Is there any reasons for the ram in laptop being at 2666mhz?  I can see the laptop will only do 2400mhz.  I'm just checking before i buy an upgrade.

Hi:

The DDR4-2666 MHz memory was probably what HP had on hand when your PC was manufactured, even though the product specs indicated it came with 2400 MHz memory (which is the fastest speed memory your notebook's processor can run the memory at).

Please read through this related discussion to see why I don't recommend installing performance memory in your notebook.

If you want to install DDR4-2400 memory in your notebook, it should have a CL of 17, however I believe that you can find DDR4-2666 or DDR4-3200 memory nowadays for less money.

DDR4-2666 should have a CL of 19 and DDR4-3200, a CL of 22.

Those chips will properly bridge to 2400 MHz.

HI Paul

Thanks for your response.

That is what i was thinking about the 2666mhz RAM being already installed but i want to just make sure. Thank you for the link I will take a read up now. Off the top of my head i think the Corsair Vengeance RAM was at CL16 and i have noted what you mentioned on the correct CL for mhz.

I'm surprised at the 3200mhz bridging to 2400mhz but Im not the expert here 😄

Many thanks for your time and help.

Kind regards,

Kev
