Thks ....

i have read the manual and i had some answers and some "flou" zone ...

we can go 4 /8 /16 /32 so it asnwers my 12 gb question !!

also it supports the dual channel  mod (witch is better ) and they way i undersand it is :

slot 1 with slot 1 (secondary)

slot 2 with slot2 (secondary )

so the best perf on this laptop will be :

both slot 1 used

or all slots used !!

not one , not 3 ...

so it will be 4+4 first then 4*4 to be16 for me (to not loose the first 4 gb)

samsung brand in it for those that want to know ....(i use everest to check all my harwdare here)

thks again for sharing you thoughts

You're very welcome.

Why not invest in 2 x 8 GB modules now while it is cheap?

If you wait too long, the memory will be costly.

Just take a look and see how much a 4 GB DDR2 chip costs now!

Well the thing is that i don't fell like removing the keyboard ...(kebaord is easy but the connector stuff is kind scarry !!)

also i use Win 32 for now (dual booted , pro windows and home windows for net/surf ect ...)

So i'm not rushhing just taking infos before uprading to 64 bits (i'm doing pro audio and was waiting until i have all my software 64 ready ;))

Can i ask you a quick question not on ram but on the keyboard ?

Hi:

Well, if you are going to stick with 32 bits, then 4 GB is the max it is good for anyway, so I understand your point.

I do not own your model PC.  I have an Elitebook 6930p, and when I installed a 4 GB chip under my keyboard, all I did was release the keyboard, flip it over over and left all the connectors intact.

My keyboard was also a little difficult to pop up and I actually knocked off one of my F keys in the process. I was not happy!

Luckily for me, the key popped right back on.  Sometimes getting laptop keys to go back in is difficult.

So, you can ask me about the keyboard, but I probably won't have an answer for you.

nope i was about to ask you a question concerning back lighted keyboard in French .....

impossible to find one while it's ok for every country , i also more upset that now the 8570w has a backlighted keyboard ...

And the worst thing is that on the 8560w , no backlighted and they get rid of the small light we used to have on the 8540w near the cam witch was super cool !!

do you have any infos on that ....?

sorry for the off topic ....that's why i asked you before asking this question

Thks again 😉

Hi:

Nothing's off topic to me as long as it meets the forum rules.  :generic:

I don't work for HP, so I don't have an answer as to why you can't get a backlighted keyboard in French, when you can for other languages.

I also like the little flip up light on my 6930p.

I'm sorry they did away with that on your model, making a backlighted keyboard nice to have.

Have a great weekend!

Thks for the info 😉

Just get as many 8gb sticks as you want.

I just put in the following:

Kingston KVR1333D3S9/8G (got it from tigerdirect) and popped that one in one of the slots under the keyboard after taking out ONE of the 2 4gb Dimms that lie in the 2 slots under the keyboard.  I'll eventually also replace the other HP 4gb Dimm with another 8.

for the other 2 slots (outside right after you pull off the service cover), I've installed 2 8gb Dimms (16 total there) using these:

16GB 2X8GB RAM Memory for HP EliteBook 8570w (Quad core) Black Diamond Memory Module DDR3 SO-DIMM 204pin PC3-10600 1333MHz Upgrade

 photo.JPG

Used a thin butter knife which works like a charm to get the keyboard off

(and no not a plastic credit card which has been suggested by others, that does not work at all)

see my video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWWPnHeYaWk&feature=youtu.be

(notice the blue Dimm in the back slot, that's the default 4gb dimm from HP which I'll replace later).  This is the view under the keyboard.
