I dropped my laptop and the plastic base is cracked in 2 places. Performance was not affected. Should I buy a replacement base and change it myself or have a professional do it? Is replacement difficult and/or does it require special training or tools?

Replacement of the laptop base is not difficult. It does require patience, good lighting, PC screwdrivers. You will need a cup to put the screws once they are removed since they can be easily lost.
I will see if I can find a video that shows how it is done. I did find one that is not the exact model, but close enough.

Here is a search I did for the Jet black cover. Pretty inexpensive @ less than $30.00
