Spectre x360 - 15t (X6W04AV )
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just recived my Spectre x360 - 15t CTO and so far I am happy with it.  I would like to get an additional charger so I can have one at both places I will use it.  The charger/adapter that came with it was marked 90 Watts and has a USB-C connector for power delivery.  All the HP and third party chargers I can find either don't have the 90 Watt output or don't the USB-C connector.

  • What is the part number and cost of the HP charger/adapter that came with this computer?  Can I buy it from the HP store?
  • Does this machine really need a 90 Watt power supply, or would a 45W or 60W be adequate (those are easy to find)?
  • Apple sells a 87W power supply (but it's pricy), would that work?

Thanks.

same problem here. The charger has no Product Number

HP Parts Sales just sends me automatic replies with

"If you couldn’t locate the needed part on HP Parts Store, please use the below link in order to contact HP Authorized Parts Partners (HP Authorized Resellers) in your area, who can provide you more information about the requested part."

Don't expect any help from HP

I called some Authorized Resellers, they said they don't have the new Spectre in stock and therefore also no chargers

However they told me that I need to know the "Replace with HP Spare" number: 904144-850. Once they have it I need to tell them this number

I guess we need to wait a few months. Contacting HP is useless. If I would have known before I would have bought from any other OEM.

well good news and bad news.....

Good News...I found it on the HP parts site....

Power Module:  904144-850

Descrption: GNRC-90W ADPTR PFC USB-C 3PIN

Power Cord: 213349-009

Description: Power cord (Black) - 3-wire conductor, 1.0m (3.2ft) long - Has straight (F) C5 connector (North America)

Bad news they dont have any of the power modules.... How a place cannot have their own power supplies. i dont know.... but i am looking also..... If i find them for sale i will update you. I also called HP's trusted 3rd party distributers... they didnt have it.

But if you need any other parts here is the direct link to our computers parts list.

So per customer service..... The USB port on this universal is up to 90W..... which means we should be able to buy this and just get a regular USB to USB-C adapter cable.... I am going to try it....

Thanks, good to know that a different 90w adapter might work.  Unfortunately, it looks like the one you referenced has only round/barrel connectors, so the Aukey adapter cable from Amazon won't work with it.  HP might have other 90w adapters that have USB-A connectors (that is, USB 3.0 connectors) that could be used with a USB-C adapter.

I have done some Googling on the USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt Power Delivery system (which both use the USB-C connector).  There is a complicated negotiation process between the power supply and the powered device to decide what power profile they will use.  The profile sets the voltage and amperage, and thus the wattage.  If the older 90w HP power supply doesn't support the USB 3.1 Power Delivery negotiation process, then it may not work with a USB-C adapter.  But any third party adapter with a USB-C connector will probably work.  Apple makes one; it is a little pricey but it may work.  Eventually, some third party like Belkin or Aukey will probably have on on the market, and probably for less than HP will charge.  Still, it is odd that HP can sell parts that require strong skills to replace, but can't sell a plug-in part.

It has a USB a port right on the front dude so yeah that cable will work

it has a USB-A port on it.... you wouldnt even have to use those other adapters or the two prong cord. plus customer service said it would work with a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Did you buy the universal and the cable and did it work?

+1

Would love to know if anyone's found a solution yet. Really don't want to spend $100 on an Apple charger when HP should be providing their own solution by now.

I didn't want to wait any longer and bought the HP 45W USB-C charger listed in HP parts.

Since I am from Germany I bought:

http://store.hp.com/GermanyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=V5Y26AA&opt=ABB&sel=ACC

it works well, just slower in charging but sufficient for me (I keep that one in the office)

If you are from the US I guess this one should work as well: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-45w-usb-c-ac-adapter
