Hello everyone, my laptop has 2 USB type c ports, it charges by them. Suddenly they both only work on one side, the same side both, not reversible as they should. This happens with any USB device including the charger which does not charge unless I use one side of it, in either of both USB plugs. Additionally, it does not matter if it's on Windows, Linux or the laptop is off, it only works one side.

Welcome to HP support community.
Update BIOS and Chipset using HP support community.
Click here and refer this HP document for the steps to use HPSA.
Update the Windows
- Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button in the lower left corner. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click either Windows Update or Check for updates.
- Click the Check for updates button and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
- If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to install.
- In the list, click the important updates for more information. Select the check boxes for any updates that you want to install, and then click OK.
- Click Install updates.

Run a test on USB ports to check for any hardware failures:
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
4. The Component Tests menu displays.
5. Select USB port to run test.
Keep me posted.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
Cheers.
