I am not going to belabor the point but do you really think you can go to the store and just try multiple NVME M.2 SSDs? I think something else is going on but just sayin' I would not mark anything as "solution" until you actually have it working.

I know it looks incredible, but the HP service center engineer gave me exactly this advice: go to the store with my laptop and try all SSD NVME M2 modules until one of them works!  He said they don't have a compatibility list of third-party modules. He can only recommend the original HP module. I followed his advice, but not completely, because I had not time to experiment.  I realized that there were compatibility issues with third-party SSD NVME modules, so I decided to buy an SSD SATA M2 module, as the SATA standard is more common. In any case, even SSD SATA runs 10 times faster than HDD. Yesterday I bought module SSD SATA M2 Radeon R5 120Gb for $20, instead of buying the original HP module for $165, installed Windows (activation was automatic) and gave my daughter the laptop. I don't think that 1.5 times speed difference justifies an 8 times price difference. Problem solved 🙂

Yes a SATA SSD is not be criticized. They are very fast and adequate for most users. Glad it worked out happily for you.
