Hi,

The primary HD is a 640Gb model. Is it possible to add another HD different from the first (1 Tb, 750 Gb, etc.) or has it to be the same model? Thanks.

Hey there! @Aleth,

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

As you have not shared the complete product details, I won't be able to share accurate information.

However, HP also offers solutions for HP laptops with the Multibay, Multibay ii and standard optical drive bays. Note that there are also HP laptops that come standard with two internal drive bays. All you would need is a 2nd HDD caddy to upgrade.

You have to purchase a third party HDD caddy to install the secondary hard drive into the optical drive bay.

Note: upgrading the components on your PC will void the warranty on your PC, So HP does not recommend upgrading the parts.

Refer this document to know more information about adding a secondary hard drive. Click Here

Hope this answers your query!
Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂

Thank you very much for your answer. the product number of my notebook is LR181EA#ABF. It is no more under warranty. There is one free place (?) for a secondary HDD. I suppose I may add for instance a 1 Tb HDD compatible with the model given by HP : 638974-001? I already have the connector cable and the screws, and the basket is already present in the notebook. But it is not so easy to find an HDD at a reasonable cost.

Thank you for your help.

Question answered!

Hi,

Another question arises: Is the height of the HD important? HP indicates 12.7 mm, but Western Digital for instance has a model with a height of 9 mm. I found another model (brand not shown) with SATA III 6Gb/s 128MB Cache. Is this compatible with the dv7-6070ef? It is indicated for a dv7-6070ca which has the same characteristics. As all the offers come from the US to France, I try not to have problems after buying one! Thank you for your help.

Regards.
