Should I get new laptop?

I’ve had my laptop for about 5 years now and the battery has officially died on me. Do we think it would be better to just buy a whole new laptop or just get a new battery. I will admit my laptop has gotten slower but I’m not sure if it’s BECAUSE of the battery or my laptop is just getting old. LMK

Totally valid question — 5 years is a decent run for a laptop, and whether to replace the battery or the whole device depends on a few things. Let’s break it down real quick:

When a New Battery Might Be Enough:

• Everything else works fine (screen, keyboard, no overheating, no freezing).
• You're only experiencing slowness occasionally, and it's likely software-related (like startup programs, lack of free storage, etc.).
• You like the laptop and don’t need something more powerful for new tasks.
• If the battery is dead and the laptop works fine otherwise. 

If you're unsure why it's slow, try running a quick health check:

• Check Task Manager (on Windows) to see what’s using up CPU/RAM.
• Look at drive usage — if it’s an HDD, consider upgrading to an SSD. That alone can breathe new life into an old machine.
• Check battery cycle count and performance (if the OS lets you).

If it’s just the battery, and you're otherwise happy with it, replacing the battery is a low-risk fix.

If it's slow and struggles with your regular use, and you're needing to do more — might be time to invest in a new one.
