Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I just recently purchased an HP Envy m6-1205dx laptop and i noticed that certain keys wont work on the keyboard. None of these particular keys work in Windows or on the BIOS screen. I am on my second replacement keyboard and i am having the same issue. The main keys that dont work are the "asdf" and "jkl:" Also, the main enter key does not work. The one on the number pad does. Considering i have trie multiple keyboard with the same result, i would have to assume it is something else entirely. Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Hey @Rockwellium,

Welcome to the HP Support Community where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community!

I understand that you are having an issue with the Keyboard keys on your HP ENVY m6-1205dx Notebook PC.

Have you tried to use an external Keyboard at all?

Have you tried going into Safe Mode to see if the problems persist in there?

Have you tried Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset?

Have you done a hardware test?

Have you updated all of your drivers?

Please try the follow troubleshooting steps to see if this resolves the situation:

  • Start
  • Search for Device Manager
  • Open Device Manager from the Search results.
  • Click View
  • Show Hidden Devices.
  • Click the arrow next to Keyboards.
  • Right-click the keyboard device name.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
  • Restart the notebook twice.

I found a troubleshooting document for you to try also called Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting. Please make sure to follow the steps in this document.

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers that need updating.

This is a great question other customers may also be wondering about. When we have come to a resolution, please share what worked for you with others by marking this post as an Accepted Solution. @Rockwellium

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY m6-1205dx Notebook and read that the keyboard has malfunctioned. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

You have covered all the troubleshooting and have replaced the keyboard too. By now the issue should have got resolved.

The evidence points towards an internal failure. I suggest you to contact our HP phone support team to explore the available service options for your laptop.

Feel free to keep me posted for any further questions. All the best! 🙂
