The same happened to me, i bought the computer in december 2015. The repair will cost me 700$. HP is not going to accept it's their fault?

FYI, I submitted warranty dispute, which eventually got me a call back from a tech support supervisor. HP is not acknowledging a systemic problem with the system board so they are not offering any replacement or financial compensation.

Very disappointing.

Just experienced this issue myselft.  Barely had the computer 18 months.  I wouldn't even mind spending some money to fix it.  I like the computer that much, but with this common of an issue there's just no way.  HP is doing nothing to acknowledge this as a problem with one of their top of the line devices.

It's a shame that this will be my last HP product.  I just can't drop significant money on a laptop only to have it die after 18 months.  Things happen and hardware does fail, but when a simple search fines threads upon threads detailing the same issue for many users and the company won't even stand by the product, that's a huge issue for me.

So long HP.

same EXACT issues and same blown surface mount component. Did we ever get to the bottom of this or find a replacement?

"Replacement" what? The HP "fix" is to sell you a new system board. I was told by HP that they are not recognizing this as a design flaw or a component defect, so no compensation.

They offered me 200 off the next purchase. What next purchase....joke.

Yup, same thing happened to me.

I got contacted by a very nice support rep and while I mentioned I could literally prove we've purchased 50+ HP laptops/desktops/servers for all of our companies (We're an MSP), they still said it'll cost $700 to repair since its out of warranty.

Essentially, what they're saying is their laptops dying after two years is considered NORMAL.

TWO YEARS FOR A LAPTOP THAT COST OVER $1500 IS NORMAL?

While Apple machines are overpriced, their build quality never gives me issues and when it does (e.g. when my MacBook battery practically imploded, similar to this), they replaced it FREE OF CHARGE since its a clear company defect.

The sad thing is they (the mods) make it sound like you're getting contacted by their support to receive actually beneficial support but its practically a sales pitch.

$700?????????????????????? Half the laptop price? Cool

Not sure what to say here guys, might want to consider Dell or Apple at this point.. Lenovo also has AMAZING customer care, they send replacement boxes next day at one of my clients.

What an absolute joke.

I came to this page: Spectre x360 13-4003dx Motherboard Failure - HP Support Forum - 6020535

since my HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx had the exact fate like every others were describing: Failed after less than 2 yrs.

I openned the back up, and tested the power supply and the socket. The power is fine up to the point where it is connected to the mother board (with multiple pins), so I know it is the mother board that failed.

Like other users, I also think a reputated company like HP should have a solution to this problem, and not ask users to buy a $1000 laptop every less than 2 yrs.

When I called HP support, they told me they surely can fix it, but for $650 at the front!

Are you thinking about anther HP laptop in the future.....
