Spectre x360 15”

Hello all. My laptop is a Spectre x360 (model #15-bl012dx) that I purchased in the Summer of 2017.

I woke up yesterday morning and hopped on my laptop. After using it for a few hours, the “This PC is in battery saver mode” notification came up, which I thought was weird, as it was plugged in. Then I realize it’s not charging at all. I make sure all the connections are plugged in all the way; still not charging. The charge light won’t even come on. I shut it down.

I turned it back on this morning to try and backup my data in case the whole thing stops working. It turned on and booted up fine, but shortly thereafter turned itself off after telling me the battery was low. Now I can’t get it to do anything.

So I figure the most likely culprit is the charger. I order one on Amazon and got it this morning. But my laptop is still not charging. Now I ordered a new battery that will be here on Tuesday, but I doubt it’s a battery problem as I had it replaced under warranty once before (Summer of 2018) and the laptop would still work as long as it was plugged in.

What should I do now? Is this a common problem? If anyone can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

You're not the only one.  This is a big issue.  They aren't recognizing it and it should be a class action lawsuit.

They sold faulty products and now plenty of customers are dealing with dying Spectres.

The batteries on these devices are swelling up and dying on users.

I’m not sure if mine is simply a battery issue, unfortunately. Like I said in the post, I had the battery fail on my in the Summer of 2018 and it was replaced by HP under warranty. When that happened, I could still use the laptop, as long as it was plugged in. Now my laptop doesn’t want to charge at all and won’t turn on.

However I’ve been reading some other posts on here and it seems like the 2015-2017 models may have had motherboard issues that caused symptoms similar to mine. Seems like HP missed the mark in some ways with the Spectre X360. If my motherboard turns out to be the problem (as it has been for many others), and it isn’t replaced for free or a deeply discounted rate, I swear I’m never buying another HP product. And this is from someone who has bought an HP desktop, laptop, and multiple printers.

Hi@MyronLawz, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that HP Spectre x360 15-bl012dx laptop is a burnt motherboard.

The laptop needs to be serviced. I would suggest you contact our phone support. They will help you.
