My Spectre x360 13-1402tu is a defective device evidenced by the fact it failed withing one week.
Diagnosis and Repair summary: MOTHERBOARD and SOLID STATE DRIVE FAULTY (replaced) and now 2 years on and it
WILL NOT TURN ON
Contacting Technical Support is such a sub-optimal experience in my experience....there does not appear to be any comunication between reporting an issue and follow up.....and no way of contacting the individual who generated the case number.....no continuity or responsibility it seems? "Thank you for contacting HP Support. This email confirms your request for service; the details of your Case are below.
Please DO NOT REPLY to this email. It is sent from an unmonitored automatic service"
Case number: [edit]

@ tweeddude
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Hello,
Please add me to the list of Spectre x360 owners with the burnt motherboard issue. I was on a trip, and powered up the laptop with the power cord plugged in. Out of nowhere, the laptop powered down and emitted a "burn't electronics" smell, and now will no longer charge the battery. It still powers up, but the battery is down to 9% charge.
I own two of the Spectre x360 Convertible 13-4002dx laptops. I love them! I was so disappointed that this happened, and am concerned about the second one. Will it meet the same fate? Please advise.
Best Regards,
Kevin

Hello,
It appears my HP Spectre x360 Conve 13-w020ca has suffered the same fate.
It no longer charges. I've tried hard reset but computer has completely died. Laptop has been in use for less than 16 months.
Please help me get this resolved.
Thanks,
Hendre

I think they've "closed" several of the previous threads, so I couldn't post there.
I'm adding my upset customer post for the same experience with my Spectre X360:
I had exactly the same experience as all the other posters. The laptop got hot (but ran still ran fine). Went to work, came home, and nothing. No lights, no power. Expensive "premium" HP laptop, now a coaster after 17 months. Bought the laptop new from HP 11/2016 and 5 months out of warranty now. Arggg. I guess I get to look forward to sitting on the phone repeating myself with generic customer service for 2 hours.
Do an internet search for "Spectre X360" and "motherboard", and you can see the same posts over and over. Based on the sheer number of posts, I can only imagine this is going to increase as the X360 ages. HP might want to get a recall organized before it affects enough people to get into the news.
Here's the link to the longest thread in the support forums:
HP Spectre X360 motherboard burned, literally

Actually - HP did contact me, and fixed my issues. It was just like the old HP again...they were very professional and quickly resolved my motherboard issues. I am grateful to have my Spectra back and working as it should. Excellent little laptop!
