I totally agree with you but for our followers that bought the BestBuy Black Friday pre-configured laptops, i.e. M110 and G110, the prices that we paid outweighed the speed increases. If you use the build options on the HP website, you'll see what I mean.

I went with the HP.com version og the split x2 gxxxxx. pros: 1) Hi res screen 2) wireless ac as opposed to n 3)500gb drive already installed 4) the ultra book look and feel (it is a bit smaller) 5) The biggie bought it using HP prefered account, same as cash for a year, not even minimum payments! Cons: only the 4GB option. I'm not really running into ram usage issues. I had been watching the best buy models at; 1st there was only the m110 then the g110 was added. The m110 at 1st had only a 3rd gen i3, then hp updated or made optional the 4th gen i5 for both hp.com and BB. Yea BB dropped the price for black friday for both the m110 and g110, but by then mine was already being built. I wouldn't have changed my mind anyhow.
Just my 2 cents worth.
SO I guess the ram stick is soldered in on the gxxx? If it was in a dimm slot after the warrenty ran out i would have tried to figure how to open the display clam shell and simply swapped a 8 gb stich for the 4, but is it is in fact soldered, I won't even bothert to mess with it.

Apperently the gxxx is stuck at 4gb if what the othr fellow said "it's soldered in" the hi res monitor, installed 500 gb drive and ac wireless and years' same as cash is what reeled me in from hp .com reeled me in. I'm happy with what I own.

LOL I don't have any followers. I had been shopping a hybred model laptop for some time. So I have looked at other vendoers then HP. For get any fold over or flip models in my opinion. Detachabe is the way to go. Hp had the closest thing to what I wanted. I liked the gxxx for ultrabook looks over the 8 gb ram pf the mxxx, plus the hi res monitor and ac wireless mode are what won me over. As I seem to recall the bb had a 64 ssd as to the 128 ssd I got through hp,com. I'm just realizing now how much room I have with thr 128 ssd and 500 gb platter drives on this version, plus being able to add another 128 storage in sd cards.Plus the cloud storage once I figure that out. Lots of room for movies, pictures, music, and e books, etc.
It's fast enough that my win 7 tower with a phenonom 2 and 8 gb ram is starting to feel slow. The HDMI out is very nice to watch movies on a big screen. Yet another medium going obsolete, LP, 8 track, casettes, vcr, and now cd's and dvd's. Progress!

A lot of messages. I read the first few pages and then jumped to the newest.
Yes you can upgarade the RAM! I could anyways...
I purchased the X2-Split for my girlfriend from BB like a week before it was released (JUL-2013). I was able to upgrade the X2 split RAM from 4 to 8 using a single 8gb memory module purchased from NewEgg on 7/28/2013:
Patriot Signature 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory for Ultrabook Model PSD38G1600L2S
It was not soldered in as some suggested. Make sure the RMA is1.35V Low Voltage (see the L after 1600?)
I also found the HDD bay and called HP sales, then tech support and then another higher level tech support to obtain spare part number 736884-001, but I was given the run-around. After months of waiting for HP to have the part available, I am back looking again, but see all of this commotion. Also I did not know it required a 5mm High drive. The opted to skip the 512mb and go for the 1TB HDD 2.5 drive. It is/was 9.5mm. I guess I will make it an enternal. I am going to contact HP and order spare part number 736884-001. I have downloaded the HP X2 Split maintenance manual here (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03957651.pdf) and follow the instructions on disassembly/assembly. This is what I used to updgrade the RAM and will use it to upgrade the HDD. Otherwise I will install either the 750gb or 1TB SSD for my girlfriend and be done with it.

Question: The one that have memory upgraded was
1) i5 model (13-g110dx)
or
2) i3 model (13-m110dx) ?
?
It does make difference.
