I recently purchased an HP Split X2 from Best Buy, and I like it so far. I read in the preliminary reviews for this product that the CPU can be i3 or i5, that RAM can be upgraded to 8GB, and that a hard disk can be placed in the keyboard. I realize that this is a new product, but does anyone yet know if these upgrades can be accomplished after purchase? My Split X2 is now configured with 4GB of RAM, 128 GB of solid state memory, and an i3.
Thank you for your attention.

Hi,
This is the list of available configurations:
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/x2/compare.html
I think the keyboard is too thin to accommodate a normal HDD and based on the following link you can ONLY put SD card to the keyboard (point #4):
There are few screen sizes and the 13.3" model has more options than the others. You can find more information from the following document including how yo upgrade RAM:

According to the service manual, yes you can upgrade the RAM and keyboard HDD after purchase, but this is a dealer/ service-only activity. I'm sure that a competent DIY-er could do it but it would invalidate any warranty you have.
The HDD requires a fitting kit, which I've been looking for and can't find available anywhere. The RAM is standard DDR3 PC3-12800 and there should be an empty slot if you have 4gb in there already.
RAM is housed in the tablet, HDD in the keyboard. You would have to remove the backs of both to get at the locations.

I just upgraded my Split X2 to 8GB of RAM and added a second hard drive. You can order the RAM from HP or any store which sells memory like Crucial/Kingston but I ordered mine from Amazon because of Amazon Prime, just make sure its laptop memory:
Crucial Single 8GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) Notebook Module, CT102464BF160B
To add a second drive, you need to order the following from the HP parts store which just became available:
732279-001 HDD HARDWARE KIT
Installing these parts does take some guts since it feels like you are breaking the covers but it does come off with some effort. Be sure to follow the direction in the user guide found on the HP site.
For the HDD, you must remove the keyboard cover (hidden screws under the 2 back rubber feet) and screws to the hinges and battery to get to the underside of the HDMI card (that's where the HDD connector is located - very inconvient place). Snap in the connector and put everything back.
You can use any HDD or SSD capacity drive as long as the thickness is 7MM or less. I've installed a 960 GB 7MM SSD from Curcial and it works like a charm.
Hope this helps.

Hello JStockton,
This is a link to the product manual, which contains information regarding the 732279-001 hardware kit:

If you require this, you can order it from the HP Part Store. Their telephone number is 1-800-227-8164. Their hours of support are Monday-Saturday, 6:00am-6:00pm Mountain time.

Hello ChristoMephisto,
I can't guarantee you can order this part for the UK. However, I have included a link below for many HP telephone numbers. One of those numbers may allow you to speak with someone that can order this for you:
http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html
You can also try sending an email to SparePartOderEMEA2@hp.com, and in the email, state what you would like to order. Hopefully this information will help.
