I have had this notebook for about 2.5 years and it has been operating well. Just the other night, I had it plugged in to charge and went to move the charger. When I did that, I noticed the charger was very hot. I unplugged it immediately and lifted the notebook to find the bottom to be very hot. Neither my battery nor charger have been on any list for recall. Has anyone else had this problem crop up suddenly?

Hi! @madkinson, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I understand you have overheating issues with your laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?
Have you tried charging your laptop using an alternate adapter?
As you mentioned your laptop is getting overheated while charging the PC.
Update the BIOS and chipset drivers on your PC from the links below.
Update the BIOS using this link. Click here to download.
Also, update the thermal framework driver using this link. Click here to download.
To properly ventilate the computer, allow at least 7.6 cm (3 in) of clearance on the left side
of the computer. The computer uses an electric fan for ventilation. The fan is controlled by a temperature
sensor and is designed to turn on automatically when high-temperature conditions exist. These conditions
are affected by high external temperatures, system power consumption, power management/battery
conservation configurations, battery fast charging, and software requirements. Exhaust air is displaced
through the ventilation grill located on the left side of the computer.
Try running a system diagnostics on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.
Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.
