HP EliteBook 850 G5 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just purchased a used Elitebook 850 G5 after checking the specs here https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05903028 to be sure I was able to upgrade to Windows11.

It turns out the TPM is on version 1.2 but on the specs 850 G5 should have TPM v. 2.0 and therefore can't upgrade to Win11 . How is it possible?

I updated the BIOS, checked all settings, checked the HP website but nothing!

Any solution? Thank you

Hi:

I agree with you.

I don't see how that is possible.

The last HP Elitebook that came with a TPM 1.2 security chip was the Elitebook 850 G4 model series, and HP released a procedure to update that model series' TPM 1.2 security chip to 2.0.

Are you sure you purchased a G5 and not a G4 or older?

I went on the HP support website, inserted the serial number from the chassis, and it says HP EliteBook 850 G5 (actually also the invoice of the seller says the same). I don't understand

Me either.

I guess you can read the info I posted for you and use that file to see if you can also upgrade the TPM 1.2 chip to TPM 2.0.

You can read the instructions in Italian as well.

If that doesn't work on your model, you can use this method I use on PC's that don't meet the W11 hardware requirements to upgrade to W11.

Thank you Paul. Honelstly I feel ripped off. HP states that the 850 G5 has 2.0, also HP diagnostics identifies the laptop as 850 G5. I purchased the laptop from an online big european reseller of refurbished PCs. I wonder where the issue is and who is playing dirty, but it looks more as an attorney related than issue than a tecnical issue.

I think I will simply pack it in the box and send it back and see if I get a refund, as I already installed it.

Thank you for you help

You're very welcome.

Hello Paul, just wanted to post an update that might help others (allthough the whole issue is really odd and apparently my laptop is the only one in the world having this problem).
The company that sold me the used laptop stated that TPM version may be selected from BIOS, which is not true. As they did not answer on the refund request, I preferred keeping the computer.

It turns out that my TPM processor is an Infineon SLB9670 with TPM 1.2 version 6.43.245.0, version that simply does not exist on elitebook 850 G5 HP notebooks.
The SP81900 does not cover this version. Following your indications and with some searching, I found https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87501-88000/sp87753.exe .
Even more odd is that according to BIOS System Information, my motherboard was "born" on date 03/26/2019, which is well after release of last version of sp87753 from HP.
I fanally was able to use the TPM12_6.43.245.0_to_TPM20_7.63.3353.0.BIN file to upgrade to TPM 2.0 and install Windows11.

I really wonder what the hardware source of this laptop is and where this laptop comes from, but I suppose I will never find out.

Thank you again for your help.
