The fan is almost always on full speed. I tried all the ideas I could find. I haven't tried the HP Command Center thermal option, though. First of all because I can't find it anywhere. It's not in my version of Microsoft Store where people seem to find it. I live in Denmark. Tried to change all settings to US but to no avail. No such app. Anyway, someone wrote that the thermal option is not there anymore in the program.

Does anyone have any ideas? Where can I find the HP Command Center? Do you have any other solutions to the fan problem?

Hi! @Easterfarm,

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Try restoring the BIOS to default.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Try updating the thermal framework drivers and BIOS on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

To properly ventilate the computer, allow at least 7.6 cm (3 in) of clearance on the left side
of the computer. The computer uses an electric fan for ventilation. The fan is controlled by a temperature
sensor and is designed to turn on automatically when high-temperature conditions exist. These conditions
are affected by high external temperatures, system power consumption, power management/battery
conservation configurations, battery fast charging, and software requirements. Exhaust air is displaced
through the ventilation grill located on the left side of the computer.

Lastly, try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

Hi and thx for your reply.

I followed all your recommendations except replacing the heatsink and cooling fan. I am not going that far.

Unfortunately, it has not solved the problem.  The PC heats up just using Word, sometimes above 90 C. The fan goes berserk when I connect my two external screens - a necessity in my work - and charging at the same time. And it's not cooling. It just continues with a high temperature and the fan running full speed.

In view of all the threads I've read about this problem, I think it's just a badly made PC. Too much power on too little space.

Do you have other suggestions?

By the way: Yes I updated Windows recently but the fan problem has been there from day one - ever since I bought the computer on Black Friday in 2017. Nothing has changed.
