HP ProBook 440 G8 Notebook PC IDS Base Model

Hello, so I have a Probook 440 G8, and when I saw the user manual, there is a fingerprint sensor

however, when I try to add my fingerprint, it says "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello fingerprint", therefore I looked up the Internet searching for solution

I've been downloading and installing all sorts of biometrics drivers, go to Services and start WindowBiometrics, Go to Device manager and try instaling it manually, reset my laptop, but nothing works!

in the device manager there is no Biometrics section (I've enabled "show hidden devices ")

I went to the HP official driver and software, locate my Probook 440 G8 that is using Window 11 version 23H2 64x bit

in there there is a fingerprint driver in section Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices

it's called ELAN Fingerprint Sensor Driver and the version is 3.2.12011.10056 Rev.A

the file name is sp152998.exe

after I installed it, it doesn't add in the Device Manager automatically, so I add it manually by going to Action --> Add Drivers --> and I chose sp152998 folder

however, it says

Windows has successfully added and install all specified device

WbfUsbDriver.inf: Successfully added oem12.inf and installed on 0 device(s)

and still there is no biometrics in the category.. please provide an answer

thank you

From page 11 of service manual

IMPORTANT: To verify that your computer supports ƭngerprint reader sign-in, type Sign-in options in
the taskbar search box and follow the on-screen instructions. If Fingerprint reader is not listed as an option,
then your notebook does not include a ƭngerprint reader.

Possibly one of these might work

Thank you for replying and providing answers, although I thought that if you have biometrics as an option it will still be visible in the Device Manager under the "show hidden device" option

Perhaps the only way to really know if it has a fingerprint sensor is to open it up? Or maybe there is another way?

Also I tried using UEFI diagnostic in the components diagnostic there is no Fingerprint or any other biometrics option available, it may be that you are correct

This is the laptop

as you can see there is a spot for the fingerprint sensor, however I didn't know that doesn't always mean you have one

Thank you for providing me answers

It seems I didn't know there were different models

Is there a way to know which model I got?

I assume there is a model that includes the fingerprint sensor and another model that doesn't

That way I can verify to the place I bought it

Thank you 🙏

You're welcome, happy to help

They are business models, that depends on the seller as requested by HP, since these business models are configured to the sales needs of the seller.

Always ask the seller for information before purchasing.

My fingerprint driver keeps disappearing from my G9 laptop every couple of months.  I go to the official driver page for my model and install the driver manually (like you did).  However, you then need to restart your laptop for the fingerprint reader to start working again.

Mine will usually work again on login without me having to re-scan fingers, etc..

I don't know why the driver disappears, but it is the only solution I have.
