Hello,
I have a docking station Thunderbolt Dock G2 230W and I tried to update the firmware to 1.0.63.1 Rev.A (SP106102). But every time I tried it by standard Firmware Installer, US USB Type-C PD Controller failed to update (with message: Installation failed.)
So I searched for a solution in here and I tried almost everything what I found in here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Thunderbolt-Dock-G2-Firmware-U... .
I manually ran (as Administrator) C:\SWSetup\SP106102\Firmware\Intel\ThunderboltUpdaterDevice.exe and then C:\SWSetup\SP106102\Firmware\Cypress\Dependency\System_Update.bat which gives an error:
DMC responded with FW cfg table analysis status authentication failed
Update failed
When I manually run C:\SWSetup\SP106102\HPFirmwareInstaller.exe and Force All to install then I will got these errors:
Those are the same firmwares as you can see in the Command Line output (if you compare the versions). So the authentication failed again...
Hope someone from HP Support can help.
Thanks in advance.

No one here who can help on that?
Hi, I have exactly the same issue with a G2 120W. The US USB update fails.
Btw, if I reboot my laptop the dock does not recognise any USB devices anymore. After reconnecting the thunderbolt, all good.

I've come across one of these and it was a hardware failure. Same symptoms, connected USB peripherals kept disappearing, FW updates failed. Called HP and they almost immediately told me it was a hardware issue. They sent me a new one and returned the defective. All good now.
