USB-C type not working with HP Elitebook 745 G3

There is a USB-C type port on this laptop and I purchased a portable monitor that requires a USB-C type connect.   Went I connect I get the error "no signal".  I also get an error suggesting I use an alternative port like the DisplayPort which I purchased a USB-C type converter to DisplayPort and it did not work and provided no errors.  I have also reviewed the MS support site ->https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4012609/windows-10-fix-usb-c-problems#connectionlimited.  All drivers installed successfully, is there an issue with this port?

The specs for your model describe the port as:

(1) USB basic type-C

Some usb-C ports are for data only and I believe that is the case with yours. So your monitor has ONLY a USB-C input?

Yes, only accepts USB C type.  I tried using a USB C type converter to DisplayPort and regular USB , but neither  worked.

Is it an Apple monitor? Do you have the model number? I have not seen any monitors with only a USB-C (thunderbolt) input.

And I believe the USB-C is for power not video input. Very cool device but may need to be connected to the DP port directly.

I purchased a PPA Int'l USB Type-C to DisplayPort Cable and I get nothing.  The monitor doesn't even power on as it did with the included cable(with this cable monitor powered up, but then displays no signal).  Maybe I can research other DisplayPort cable converters(all may not be the same).  I know the DisplayPort works on the laptop because I use it for my non-portable monitor.

The USB-C I believe is for power input and then in addition you need to connect a video data cable: HDMI, VGA or DP. If you are running a USB-C to DP converter off the laptop into the monitor you are not giving it either power or display signal as the USB-C on the laptop does not put out a display signal and the DP port on the monitor does not receive power. The included cable I am sure is just like a cell phone charging cable. A USB to USB-C cell phone charging cable would likely work for power.

Think I'm getting to the conclusion that I purchase a portable monitor with the understanding that the USB-C type would support   😞  Sounds like I have a new portable monitor until I get another laptop which is non-basic USB C-Type.

Just connect 2 cables. USB-C for power and DP for video signal. You intend to use this monitor portably or integrate into permanent desktop setup?
