Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, just purchased a new HP 14-fq1025nr (model) and would like to upgrade my RAM. Laptop already has 8GB of RAM installed. I would like to upgrade to max capacity. My system memory information states that max capacity is 32 GB but everything I read says I can only install 8GB into each memory bank and my computer only has 2 memory banks. Can I install 24GB or 16GB into my empty RAM bank or does it have to be 8GB?

Thanks for the help.

Hi:

I would think you could install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory in your notebook.

You can confirm also by doing this:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The service manual and the Crucial memory report indicate the max memory is 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

The service manual is for the older 14-fq0xxx model series.

If you really want to install 32 GB of memory, what I would do if I were you would be to buy a single 16 GB memory chip and add it in the empty slot.

If the notebook boots up, runs fine and reports 24 GB of memory, then you can safely add the second 16 GB chip.

This would be a compatible 16 GB memory chip to experiment with...

Thank you. I have never added RAM to a computer before, so this is very helpful.
