Hi Paul,

I hope you will see this...  I purchased the 8GB of ram with the part number you suggested, installed it in the computer and it won't boot up.  Would you be able to check again to verify if this particular model will accept the 8GB?  I've tried it several times and no luck.

I also purchased a 1T SSD and haven't had any luck with that yet either.  I decided to work on the RAM first, thinking that it should be simple to install.  Ha!

Thanks,

Anne

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why that memory part number didn't work.

It should have been compatible with the 15-bs models with the AMD processors.

I guess you will have to return the memory and the only other suggestion I can offer would be to see if you can find the 8 GB memory with the HP part number listed in chapter 3, page 18 of the service manual.

The downside is that it will probably be more expensive.

What happens when you install the 1 TB SSD?

Does the BIOS see it?

Thanks, Paul!  I had quite a time trying to get everything working this weekend.  I purchased a Samsung 1T SSD and the cloning of that worked well – took over 12 hours!  Once that was done, I decided to install both the new RAM and the SSD together.  The computer “turned on” but absolutely nothing on the screen.  Tried pressing F2, F8, F12, Delete, powering on and off several times, but nothing worked.

At that point, I reinstalled all the original components to get back to square one but the computer still would not come up!  Finally was able to get to an option to do a system restore and that worked.

Then it seemed that installing the new components one at a time would be a better approach so started with the RAM, as I thought that would be easiest.  Computer would not boot up.  Reinstalled the original RAM and it worked again.

Next I tried the SSD and it worked great!  So that’s where it sits now – SSD installed, original 4GB RAM.  I’m planning to install the 8GB again to see if it will work, but I don’t have much hope.  I suppose it’s possible that I have a defective module, would you agree?

The computer is much faster with the SSD but I’d like to finish the job with upgrading the RAM if I can.  My husband uses photoshop a fair amount and I think that runs better with more RAM.

Thanks again, you’ve been really helpful!

I noticed when I opened the service manual that the model numbers are as follows:

Telluride_0-1613404612385.png

The 15-bw0xx - would that also apply to the 15-bsOxx?

You're very welcome.

Glad you at least have the SSD working.

Yes, it could be a bad memory chip.  It should have worked.

So, exchange it for another one and hopefully it will work.

If not...

I googled the HP memory part number, and you definitely don't want to buy it from HP.  it is over $150!

This seller has it for $42.00.

Wow, $150!  I guess that's why we try to upgrade our own computers!  Thank you!

Hello Paul,

I purchased the 8GB RAM in your message and it worked!  Yeah!  I'm guessing that the previous part was defective, but who knows.  At any rate, the increased RAM and SSD has made a world of difference.  Now I have to think about upgrading my own laptop!

Thank you again for all your guidance - you were so helpful!!!
