HP Notebook - 15-db0029ns  - Ryzen 5 2500U -  2x16 Gb Kingston (NEW) - NVME SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS 2TB (NEW)

The connection to the GPU is PCIe 3.0.

I have managed to get the NVME to reach the following speeds, corresponding to a PCIe 2.0 connection:

I would need confirmation of the PCIe version.

Motherboard: HP 84AE (FP5) v. 86.32
Chipset: AMD Ryzen SOC rev. 00
Southbridge : AMD Carrizo FCH rev. 51
BIOS: Insyde F.39 15/07/2022

Hi, @RICMART

Your PC's NVMe slot is PCIe 3.0 according to the processor specs.

AMD Ryzen™ 5 2500U Processor | AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics | AMD

The only thing I can think of as to why your Samsung 970 is not running at the full advertised speed would be due to the Slot only being PCIe 3 x 2 instead of 3 x 4.

The drive is running at half of its advertised speed because it can only use two lanes.

Thanks for your answer Paul_Tkkanen . Unfortunately it may be so! It appears to be a motherboard architecture issue. In another HP laptop, the 15s-eq0015s, with a Ryzen 7 3700U processor, I managed to get the sequential read performance of the NVME 970 EVO Plus to 3552 Mb/s (3.0 x4).
There should be a motherboard's manual specifying the versions and lanes of each of the expansion slots and the limitations that may apply.

I'm sorry for my bad English, I did my best.

You're very welcome.

Your English is just fine.  Probably a lot better than my Spanish. 😊

Run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below and it may show you some information about the PCI express lanes in use and other motherboard information.

Unfortunately, the service manual is of no help to us in this matter.

As can be seen in the report the motherboard has 3xPCI Express x1, 1xPCI Express x4, 1xPCI Express x8 (All v3.0).
The NVMe is connected to a PCIe 4x, but it is running at 2x.
With the information provided by the application (Report), it seems that it should run at x4.
My only question is whether the M.2 slot has 2 or 4 lanes connected to it.
If 2 lanes are connected I will not be able to reach the optimal NVMe speed. In another case, if 4 lanes are connected, the solution could be to install new drivers, when they are released, or to change the configuration, for example, in the system registry. But I don't know if it can be configured.

I don't believe there will be anything you can do to get the NVMe SSD to run at its advertised read/write speeds.

Those kinds of devices are plug and play and what you see is what you get.

There are other notebooks such as the 15-da0xxx model series that have the same problem.

The NVMe SSD only runs at 1/2 of its advertised speed.
