Hello! How are you? I have a small question. What's the maximum motherboard bus frequency for communication between the RAM module & CPU in the HP 15-DY2028CA laptop if I may ask? Thanks in advance!

You're very welcome.

According to your screenshot, HP did install DDR4-2666 MHz Samsung memory chips.

So unfortunately we cannot tell from that what is the max speed your notebook's motherboard and chipset can run the memory at.

But since Intel indicates the supported memory is DDR4-3200, I would not hesitate to buy the Crucial DDR4-3200 memory.

It will definitely work but at what speed...that is the question.

You would have to replace both 4 GB DDR4-2666 memory chips with DDR4-3200 memory to be able to figure that out.

Memory is going to run at the speed of the slowest memory chip installed.

If the report shows the memory running at 2666 MHz or 3200 MHz, then you have your answer as to what the max is.

It should be one or the other--hopefully 3200.

You would want the DDR4-3200 memory that has the green circuit board, not the gaming memory.

Hi:

According to the HP specs for your notebook, they installed  DDR4-2666 MHz memory chips in your notebook.

HP Laptop 15-dy2028ca Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

Use the free utility that I zipped up and attached below to see if HP installed DDR4-3200 memory that is running at 2666 MHz, or if they installed DDR4-2666 MHz memory.

If they installed DDR4-3200 memory and it is only running at 2666 MHz, then the max communication would be 2666 MHz.

If HP installed DDR4-2666 memory as the specs indicate, it may be possible that DDR4-3200 memory would run at 3200 MHz because that is the memory spec that Intel shows on the processor spec page...

Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.70 GHz, with IPU) Product Specifications

Hello! Thank you for the free utility download link! So, I am not sure if HP installed 2666 MHZ RAM or 3200 MHZ RAM, but here's a screenshot I took, and would like to know if that means I have 3200 MHZ RAM or 2666 MHZ RAM. Thank you! Also, a website called "Crucial" that sells RAM has 2666 MHZ RAM and 3200 MHZ RAM for the HP 15-DY2028CA, here's the link to that: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-15-dy2028ca . From Crucial selling 3200 MHZ RAM that says it's compatible with the HP 15-DY2028CA and the image showing my laptop has DDR4-2666 MHZ RAM, would that mean my laptop has DDR4-2666 MHZ RAM and is compatible with DDR4-3200 MHZ RAM? Thanks again!

Thank you so much! And yes, I know, I will be getting two 3200 MHZ RAM sticks, also what’s the voltage of the RAM? Is it 1.2 Volts, 1.3 Volts, of 1.35 Volts if I may ask? Thanks in advance!

HP Recommended

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

DDR4 memory is all 1.2 Volts.

Also, the HP 15-DY2028CA's motherboard is a "HP 87FE" motherboard it says, does that help in anyway to find the maximum bus speed for the motherboard? Thanks again! Sorry if I am being a bother by the way, I love the laptop and HP did a great job, but upgrading it a bit more would boost performance I believe! 😄

Unfortunately, the motherboard description would provide no details on how fast the memory will run at.
