Hey @Ben085, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate using a Windows Anytime Upgrade key usually doesn't take too long because it's mainly an unlock process rather than a full OS reinstallation. The key just enables the additional features of Ultimate that are already present in the system files.

How Long Should It Take?

  • Normally, the Windows Anytime Upgrade process takes 10-30 minutes depending on system performance.
  • If the upgrade is stuck for hours, there might be an issue.

What You Can Do:

Check If the Upgrade is Stuck

  • If it’s been more than an hour, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and check if WindowsUpgrade.exe is using CPU/Disk.
  • If there’s no activity, it might be frozen.

Restart and Try Again

  • If the system is unresponsive, force a restart and see if it boots into Windows Ultimate.
  • If not, retry the upgrade.

Run Windows Update

  • Make sure all important updates are installed before upgrading.

Disable Antivirus

  • Some security software can interfere with the upgrade.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
