I would like to add RAM, either hynix 2G 1Rx8 PC3 10600 9 11 B2 or hynix 4G 1Rx8 PC3 12800 11 12 B2 to my HP Desktop 77RSVG i5 7200U 2.50 GHz 2.70 GHz . Are they compatible?
thank you.

Hi, Adina:
Notebook PC's that come with Intel i5-7200U processors use DDR4-2400 memory.
Use this guide to find the correct model number and product number of your notebook.

Then you can usually find the right memory you need for your notebook from the Crucial memory company.

Hello,
thank you for your reply. The two units of RAM I listed are some I already have from an older laptop. After your reply it is still not clear to me if they would be compatible or not? My plan was not ordering new RAM but I now know where I would order it thanks to you 🙂

You're very welcome, Adina:
No, the DDR3L-12800 memory will not work in your notebook.
It will not even fit in the memory slot because it runs at a higher voltage than DDR4 memory, and the notch in the memory board is cut in a different place than it is on a DDR3L-12800 memory chip.
I would need to know the full model number or product number of your notebook to provide a link to order compatible memory.
Use the guide to find your notebook's model number I posted earleir.

Hi, I found these:
Device ID CB0A7251-3BA8-4BCE-9F84-E15F39CDFC55
Product ID 00325-80793-48896-AAOEM
does this help?
Would replacing the HDD with an SSD be more efficient in making the laptop faster than buying additional RAM?
thank you,
Adina

Hi, Adina:
I would definitely install a SSD.
You have two options...your notebook has a M.2 slot to install a SATA SSD and you can continue to use the 2.5" mechanical hard drive for storage.
Or you can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
Suggested memory upgrade:
Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT8G4SFS824A | Crucial FR
Suggested SSD's
I have posted the links to the 1 To models but if you want a smaller capacity that is fine too:
M.2 SATA:

Hi,
I want to keep my HDD for storage since it has 1To... would this be an option for adding to the M.2 slot? 1https://www.crucial.fr/ssd/bx500/ct240bx500ssd1 it doesn't seem to look the same as what you sent..
thank you for your help,
Adina

You're very welcome.
Crucial no longer makes M.2 SATA SSD's.
That is a 2.5" SSD which would replace the existing 2.5" mechanical hard drive.
If you want to retain the 1 To 2.5" drive, then you can get one of these...
1 To:
500 Go:
250 Go: I don't recommend this option since it is only ~ 5 Euros less than the 500 Go model.

Hello,
So I have followed your advice and purchased the WD Blue SA 510 500Go M.2 SATA, have opened my laptop and discovered it does not fit into its M2 slot... what I purchased has 3 shapes on the right, where it inserts; whereas the slot intself is made to fit 2. Please let me know what I would need to replace this with to have it fit.
THank you
Adina
