You made sure you ran the bat file as Administrator? Cause I sent someone the file and it took him a week to figure out that's what he was doing wrong. 🙂 Then again they just may have updated it... I know i just had to re-install it when it stopped working after an update. I was terrified it wouldn't work but it did.
I've also notice quite a few people trying this on machines it's not meant for like the HP Envy. AFAIK it only works for the 15" HP DA0031nr.
EDIT: Well scratch that... the re-install did not work. Apparently my computer updated without me knowing and now it's back to sucking. I will never buy another HP product again.

I fixed it. I re-installed Windows 10 but that didn't work... I tired numerous time through command prompt but no go. Turns out I had to drag & drop it... it wasn't in the system32 file. Now I don't know if I ever had to re-install Windows at all... I wish I had thought to check first but I assumed since it worked through command prompt the first time it would work again. It's why you should never "ass-u-me" huh? 🙂 I'm thinking an update must have uninstalled it... they are now turned off. I was miserable & hated this beautiful, EXPENSIVE machine all week b/c of the keyboard light. You should really DO SOMETHING HP... it's like you're turning people against your products on purpose! First my motherboard dies after 2 freakin' years... I was blessed enough to get another one as a gift but the keyboard light ruins it. I'm a firm believer in TWO strikes you're out... not three.

Riddle_Decipher, now that you (a HP employee) have completely disparaged John510, why I do not understand. Nonetheless I have a HP 17-ca1xxx as well as John510 and many others I have no such option in my BIOS. I am sure if HP can adjust the backlite intensity then HP can offer a solution to this problem. IMHO this is undesirable and frustrating. Maybe some type of an update for the BIOS or any fix to enable the backlight to remain on.
Thanks, I look forward to your comments for this issue is not yet resolved. As mentioned, “We shall troubleshoot as a team, fight till the end and emerge - "victorious"”

After reading a few more post, I read the timeout was to save energy. What’s next your battery options? Will your LP go to sleep or turn off after 15 sec/30 sec/….??? Unacceptable answers from HP. No support or help, just “That’s the way it is…”
Guess the CEO route mentioned by Meg1st could be my next step.

Hi all,
I am new to the forum here. I just registered due to the seem reason. This week in Austria I just both the "HP Pavilion 15"Full-HD R5-3550H 16GB/512GB GTX1660Ti MaxQ DOS 15-ec0457ng" gaming laptop.
The guide with the registry keys worked for me after I manually copied the .sys file to the System32 directory. The trick was to completely disable the automatic update service on my Windows 10 and to set the touch-pad to off mode while a mouse is plugged in. With this setup it does not switch off after 15 seconds. If I start the laptop with the keyboard backlight off it may reset. But than I just have to turn on the lights and restart the machine - no need to reinstall drivers or anything.
But I agree, we should definitely write to the CEO. They should also re-enable in the BIOS settings a way to reduce the assigned video memory for the Vega 8 APU. This was mentioned in another topic. It is the same issue, since HP decided to get rid of the advanced BIOS settings you cannot tinker with that as well.

I have used the contact form "e-mail to the CEO":
"I have just procured an "HP Pavilion 15"Full-HD R5-3550H 16GB/512GB GTX1660Ti MaxQ DOS 15-ec0457ng" gaming laptop in Austria. I have identified the same issues with which several users also struggle in the HP community.
Issue no 1.
The video memory of the Vega 8 APU cannot be changed via the BIOS settings anymore ever since HP technical team decided to remove the advanced BIOS settings on all new products. You can read more about this issue here:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Any-way-to-decrease-Vega-8-Vid...
For serious users and pro gamers this feature or setting would be required to lower the assigned system memory to the built in Vega 8 chipset since most of these gaming laptops have a dedicated GPU with standalone GDDR5 or GDDR6 memory anyway, and they would like to spare those remaining DDR3 or DDR4 RAM resources for other tasks.
Issue no 2.
The keyboard backlight function on these current HP gaming laptops automatically power off after approx. 15 seconds. This is very annoying since the current state of the art best practice is that on Macbooks or other laptops the keyboard backlight stays permanently on if powered on. If one simply wants to save battery they will just completely power the keyboard backlight off, so the engineers here who decided to build in a timer made a serious user experience mistake which could force users to return their laptop, file warranty claims or even become discouraged in the future procurement of HP products. You can read more about this issue via the following thread:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/adjust-keyboard-backlight-time...
This problem is connected to the previous issue since in older BIOS builds via the advanced settings the timeout option could have been turned off.
In the name of the HP community and its users it would be much appreciated if these issues would be resolved. I am looking forward to a positive response in regards of a viable timeline for the proposed change request."
