I have the same issues as many HP owners, it seems. Poor initial construction and plastic parts have led to breaking hinges on BOTH sides of the laptop. I use this only at home, no traveling, carefully cared for. I get crackling and snapping every time I open it, I now need to leave it open to prevent the top from completely breaking or breaking the laptop casing. That being said, the actual operation is fine. Is there any recourse with HP to fix this issue as it appears to be a very common issue? It began deteriorating recently. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

I have the same issue. Did you ever receive a reply?
This is an otherwise great machine but the plastic case quality is very disappointing. These hinge problems seem to be common & known, deserving some extra warranty coverage from HP. My machine is less than 18 months old and started having hinge issues soon after the warranty expired.

My warranty was expired as well and they would not cover.
Currently engaged with HP rep via direct message, he is trying to work out discounted repair for me. The process is not lightning-quick, to say the least. Hoping it doesn't completely break before I can get it repaired.
